I have an area out back that had been a garden (largely populated by sedum and tulips--previous owner) that will now be just sod. I am going to install the sod myself, but I'm wondering about the rock content in the soil. There are a lot of small rocks that dot the soil. It's not a bed of rocks, of course, but if you were to take a gallon of soil, you'd probably find 10-15 small--slightly larger than a marble--sized rocks.
Will that present a problem for grass growth?
Planting sod with rocks...
I worked for a landscaping company for 5 years and installed a lot of lawns some by seed and some sod. We would pick the big rocks out of the soil but the smaller rocks like marble size that you are talking about shouldn't case a problem. Just make sure before you lay the sod that you rough up and make the soil below where you lay it loose so the roots from the sod can start growing easier and faster.
Hopefully this helps!
thanks
