The solstice sky - posing to remind you that summer is here officially! Stunning, and beautifully captured Tils - thank you.

Something told me I had to take them, I never get out of my car, while on the boat, I read.
Thank you

Tills ~ Great that you caught those pictures. . .they're beautiful. And this is the time of year to view this phenomenon, noctilucent clouds, on a fairly regular basis. This is part of a message I got from Spaceweather.com on 06/20/08. If you watch the luminescence for any length of time you may notice that they change colors while you're watching. Quite magnificent!

"NOCTILUCENT CLOUDS: Summer is the season for noctilucent clouds and this morning, right on cue, a wave of bright NLCs rolled over the British Isles. Observers in Scotland and Northern Ireland report luminous tendrils of electric blue bright enough to attract the attention of casual passersby. These glow-in-the-dark clouds are a 100+ year old mystery under investigation now by NASA's AIM spacecraft. Originally confined to arctic latitudes, NLCs have spread in recent years with sightings in the United States as far south as Utah and Colorado. Check today's edition of http://spaceweather.com for observing tips and the latest photos."

Fantastic cloud shots, Mary! I could tell there was a magnificent sunset somewhere, but I am socked in by trees. Next time I will get in my car and drive to a clearing!

outta, cool info on the noctilucent clouds. I have seen the electric blue, etc., before and had no idea what was causing it. Now I will keep my head up, instead of always looking down at the plants! ;)

Great shots, Tills. I was outside until 10:10 last night, so I was treated to the evolving sky. Sometimes it's just a good way to relax - lay down (check for slugs, first!) & watch the show morphing above you.
At about 9:15-9:30, they were all lit up with a sort of luminescence: a metallic-bronzed apricot, but the colour is hard to describe. There were thinner elongated clouds higher up that had this silver-blue sheen to them & the layered effect was purely stunning.
Sorry - my camera does not take good night pics, so you'll have to make due with my limited description.

Outta - thank you for some very interesting info - very exciting. The funny thing is we were out last night at 10:30 watching the sky NOT go dark - just lasted and lasted. Fab.

Thanks all, I was rather surprised that my little camera did it, and did it well, can't get the macro right half the time. LOL
When I down loaded them I yelled for my DH to come see them, and we looked at them over and over, So proud !!!!!

Thank you Sheri, for the info to cool.
