Dwarf burning bush question...

Sicklerville, NJ

I ripped out the flower bed and am starting over. I have 4 burning bushes I would like to use as a backdrop. The row in front will be Wintergreen boxwoods and the row in front of that will be Autumn Princess Encore azaleas. How close together can I get away with planting the dwarves? I want to create a cute Autumn looking hedge for a nice backsplash but don't want the roots to 'choke' on one another. Also, how far from the wall can I plant these?

Even the dwarfest of the dwarf burning bushes I've seen can still get pretty big, as in 6' tall and wide which means that the center of the plant would need to be at least 3' from the wall. Do you know which cultivar you have? The boxwoods will need at least 3'-4' of space and the Azaleas will need at least 3'-4'. You may want to consider one of the shorter Encore Azaleas (such as Autumn Coral or Chiffon) if you haven't already purchased them because, without pruning, the Autumn Princess will be very close to the same size as the boxwoods. If you proceed as planned, you will need a minimum of 6'+3'+3' = 12' of bed depth or better yet, 6'+4'+4' = 14'. Even with this more generous spacing, the plants will be touching when they reach maturity.
