I have this wonderful shrub in my front yard, bright yellow in spring, darkens to green by summer. I think it will flower, looks like there are tiny white buds on it. (I've pruned it hard the last few springs, so never saw any flowers...) It was about 6 ft tall before I came along, now about 4. Anyone know what it is?

It looks a bit like mock orange, so by pruning it so hard, you are cutting off the white flowers, even if it is not this plant, you are loosing the flowers by the way you are cutting it back, for flowering shrubs/trees etc, always cut them back right after flowering if you have to as this way, the shrub has time to put on new growth, most of these plants set flowers on last years growth, this means that the growth that comes after you cut it has the flowers for the next years flowering period, it look good and healthy so if you need to reduce it's size, do it about august at the latest. good luck. I know I lose the flowers every year. It just gets too shaggy for me by the time it flowers, and I end up cutting off old wood too. I suppose I'll let it go this year just to see. And you are right, it is a mock orange. Thanks!
