I am at least glad we got to say 3 words to each other..lol... and wouldn't that be nice to stay over.. relax, and eat breakfast with dg friends...we'll have to remember that when Dave has 1 in the fall!! TTYL!!
Becky

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Right Beck! Good thing we did, it was so crazy for me anyway.
I think when we get together in the fall (and I am there early!) I will offer to sit and take pictures as everyone gets their name tags so we at least have a pic of everyone and their families.
I am really glad I came and I loved the place (Love's Lookout) that Dave picked to have it. Here is the lookout platform near the information booth and restrooms.

I want to thank everyone that so graciuosly traded with me or just "handed" me plants... or just the ones that put the "free" plants on the sidewalk.. and I GRABBED...lol

I had a wonderful , frazzled.. crazy time with all of you, even though it seemed like I didn't get around to everybody like I wanted to!! DGers, are the BEST people anywhere!!

Just wanted to say THANKS.. and I am sooo glad I MET YOU!!!!!! Hopefully we will see each other again.. and again!!

TY!!
Becky

Beck, I put photos of your rattling plant on the I.d. forum and it's some sort of Crotalaria (rattlepod), there is something, like 600 species, but I think it's possibly Crotalaria Retusa. Still looking through more of the species.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, just wanted to thank each and everyone of you for such a great time.!! This is my first year to really plant a garden, so I didn't have a lot of stuff, but you were all so generous anyway.

I was just walking around with big ole eyes and my mouth open.

Next time, I'll be the one with lots of stuff!!! Then I can pay you all back !!!

Winnsboro, TX

Thanks Dave and all you other DG'ers.

Oh my goodness what a wonderful whirlwind of a trip and time I had with everyone. First let me say a big THANK YOU to everyone who shared with me both your plants and time. Then an apology for those of you that shared with me and dropped plants off at my station when I was not there. Thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness.

I learned a great deal from this experience and promise to be more organized like the rest of you and have everyones goodies already divided into bags and so forth. I'm sorry that I was like a duck out of water and didn't have a clue as to what was expected of me and how I SHOULD have done things. I'll also make darn sure I don't have to work the next time and be able to meet everyone and stay until the very end.

It is such a small world after all. I want to share with ya'll that the young German girl that attended the Round Up with Phyllis is my niece by marriage that I have not seen since her husband (my nephew) passed away several years ago. Some of you might recall I was/am having vision problems. I had been talking to the young man that was from Germany and then he started talking to this lady in German that was standing behind me. I heard her speak and I knew I had heard that voice before. I asked to see her name tag and she covered it up. I strained my eyes and looked at her closer and said I know you, and we started laughing, she said yes, I'm kin to you. I now have her email address and her cell number and can stay in touch with her. That in and of it's self is really wonderful.

I want to also thank Heavinscent for advising me to attend a Round Up. Without her encouragement I seriously doubt that I would have even considered going. Then Catlady also mentioned it and the rest was history. I have NEVER been with a finer group of gardeners in all my life. Thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for being so wonderful and sharing all your plants with me.

For those of you who put your extras on the sidewalk what a wonderful way to get plants you hadn't even thought about. Great Free For All!

OINK OINK, I left with my car so packed I couldn't get another plant in it.

I would like to know who gave me the Oak Leaf Hydrangea that I have been wanting FOREVER. Thank You! Like I said so many things just kind of showed up at my area when I was off running around.

I can't wait for the next roundup!!!!! Happy Gardening, Marian

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Ok I would love to say the person you are talking about Marian was with me but she was with Karen-darkmoondreamer
but I do know who you are talking about as I did talk to her also.

my niece has not been married at all yet...hahaha

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I had a wonderful time, too, but like Sheila, it was way too short! I have houseguests and couldn't get off to an early start yesterday, and then ran into traffic trying to get there. So I missed meeting a lot of you. Next time I too will leave very early or the night before.

Thanks so much to those who brought me all these lovely plants! Wish I'd been able to thank everyone in person.

Heavinscent, I looked for you yesterday to give you your Jacob Kline start, but I never could find you. When it gets a little bigger, I can mail it to you if you like. Or I can just hang on to it until next time.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

I have to thank Dave for being our host for this RU... and also Phyllis.... Girl.. you worked your butt off... everything was great!!
Also I don't think I said anything earler about seeing "old" friends, and meeting new ones..I enjoyed the RU sooo much.. but it was over way to soon!!

TY Lynnea!! Glad to know what it is.. and sounds like it is from a large "family" too. I always called it rattle plant..lol I had it half right!! You are soo organized AND smart...and cute!!..hehe I still wish you'd have taken the other plant and ID'ed it too... even though your eyes got bigger than saucers when you saw it...LOL I am hoping it's NOT what you think.. I really don't think it spreads like you were talking about..

TTYL!!

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Gee, I thought I was the only one who was like that duck. I learned what to do next time and I learned I'll never miss one if I can get there!! lol I just couldn't believe how great you all were!!! And understanding of us "newbies"
We'll all be old hands next time!!! lol

I don't remember your name who brought me the black bag of bulbs and stuff. I think I was in the middle of going crazy and I hope I thanked you. I looked inside and almost had a heart attack when I saw what all you had brought me. So THANK YOU. I hope I thanked all of you enough.!!!

Longview, TX

It's always nice to meet people who really like plants and that's what was in Jacksonville Saturday. And the food was especially great.
Jameso

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

James posting reminds me ....JOSEPHINE...you there??
He sent an armful of plants to you. There is a tree that was too big for me to handle I sent with Patty (pbtxlady) and I have the rest. We will make arrangements later to get them to you.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Beck- Your tree probably came from Emma. She had some small ones at the RU. She will know the real name if you ask her. I call it a Chinesse Rattlebox. She also has a full grown one in her yard and a photo of it in bloom. They can reseed but not a real problem here.
Marian- I had the Oak leaf hydrageas. My favorite plant, looks great all year long. Glad you like it and will enjoy it. It likes the shady side and well drained soil.
I enjoyed the day. Only wish we could have visited with each other more. Hope we can do it again in October.
DD

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

David...... no I brought it to the RU for an ID. I thought I showed it to you? It is a native here, and more like a small plant not a tree. The seed pods turn black and rattle. I went to Emmas after the RU and I am sure if I had seen anything like it I would have asked her.. BUT she has sooo many it was easy for me to get confused..lol

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw too much and cannot remember. I think I have that "oldtimers" disease. If you went by Emma's, why not to my place too????? :).
Emma knows more about plants and real names than I do so go with here answers.
Plan on a visit here during the October RU.

Gilmer, TX

Speaking of food, could we get recipes for that cheesecake, PMS pie, and Hummingbird cake? Also what were those little things wrapped in leaves?

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Im sorry I didn't come DD!! I was expected back at my camp site at 2pm, as it was I made it back by 5pm. My poor DH was worried sick! I will be sure to come by next time!

Take Care All!!
Caren

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Catlady I will ask Regine (my German friend) for the recipe for those again...She had printed lots of the recipe and brought them in her purse to hand out but forgot. They were veggie "tacos" and had chopped walnut and tomato and spices, wrapped in both Kale and Collard green leaves.

Gilmer, TX

Thanks darkmoon, they were so different and delicious.

Veggie tacos....don't know how I missed those..must have recipe.lol :0)

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

David, just wanted you to know I might need one more plant!!!!

Pam and I wanted to come by your place and Emma's, but since we could hardly walk when we left there, we figured we better go home!!! Still want to come up tho. And thank you so much for all the neat stuff.
I'm gonna have a real garden now!!!

Thanks to all of you again. I don't think there's better people anywhere.!!!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

David... Emmas was sooo beautiful and tropical looking... and I really wanted to come by your place too especially when you told me you have all those beautiful rocks in your landscape.. but I didn't hear anyone hollering ..LET'S GO.... soooo .. I just sat "demurely" waiting patiently...(!)...LOL If I can get somebody to let me have rocks in the fall I AM bringing our lowboy!! AND I want to be #1 on the list to come see your home, and gardens!! Please?

Pam.. I brought the sopapilla cheesecake.. I'll find the recipe and post on this thread.. yeah... ain't it good??

Lynnea... all you have to do is ask..lol Emma is a nut just like us... and you will love what she and Jerry have done!! I just don't have the vision... got to get some of that... I have always been straight across the front and back.. or cirles or squares.. well that is fixing to change!! I got sooo many ideas!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I get ideas....then somehow they hibernate over winter, and I plum forget them! I was wanting to go to David's place too....but, my car was too full, and so was Ted's...I raided Ted's, too, on Monday. Y'all should see his place, it's georgeous, a pond to die for, beautiful terracing, a canna garden to put anybody to shame.

Here is the recipe for the cheesecake so Becky doesn't have to look too far:

Karla's recipe for Sopapilla Cheesecake

2 cans Pillsbury crescent rolls
3-8 oz packages of cream cheese
2 cups sugar (reserve 1/2 cup for topping)
1 stick of butter
1 tablespoon of vanilla
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Use 9 x 13 pan ( I used one end of the butter stick to lightly grease bottom).
Spread one can of crescent rolls in pan (may need to stretch a little to fit).
Mix 1-1/2 cups sugar, the vanilla, and the cream cheese until creamy.
Spread mixture on top of crescent rolls.
Place second can of rolls on top of mixture.
Melt stick of butter and pour on top of dough.
Mix remaining sugar (1/2 cup) and cinnamon and sprinkle on top.
Bake in oven for 30 minutes @ 350 F.

This is my kind of recipe - quick, easy, and sooooooooo good. Enjoy-
Karlae ( AKA Karla and James Eilbeck )

Beck, I probably will invite myself over to her house soon...tsk...tsk..I have no pride.lol DDtx, house too, I've only seen it in Spring, would love to see it in bloom.

Walnut Tacos Recipe #296296

* This is a recipe I learned at a vegetarian cooking class. It was
presented to us as what a person who is on a raw diet would eat. It’s
very good and not what I’d expected, Recipe courtesy of the Instructor
Rob McLean. Serving size is dependent on how much filling you use.

2 cups Walnuts (or Pecans)
soy sauce to taste
ground cumin to taste
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 green onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 lemon, juice of
pepper to taste
10 - 12 leaves collard greens, cleaned, and trimmed of large stalkes

1. In food processor, place walnuts and blend until chopped, but not
into powder, or chop by hand
2. Add in the seasoning to your taste.
3. In a bowl, combine all other ingredients except greens.
4. Place a collard leaf on a surface and crack the ribs remaining to
flatten.
5. Place an amount of the walnut mixture on top along with desired
amount of tomato mixture.
6. Roll up and enjoy.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

OK guys I am getting cocky with all the comments about my place. Since retirement I play in the yard everyday. Any and all are welcome to come see me and get some goodies. I hope that it is never finished since I would rather put in a new area than maintain old beds. It may give you ideas as to how to push the too much shade issue since I have little full sun areas.
If this will work, here is a DVD that a friend made in early spring. Hope you can make it work and enjoy it.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Nice presentation Dave! I feel like Ive been there in person. You have a very lovely garden.
Caren

Heavinscent, My almond verbenas are rooting! I put half of them in water and the other half in soil. And the ones in water are showing roots today! Thank you so much for hauling those in a cup of water all the way from LA, it means a lot to me. Thank you!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Is it just one that is rooting?? I think I may have added a willow stick to that cup but I cant remember...

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Dave, you do indeed have a peaceful looking place. It's just lovely.

Ann

Hmmm, I took a closer look. 3 are in water and 2 of those may be willow. But all three have roots. I won't disturb the other 3 in soil until I'm sure they're dead or have a rootball. I think the willows (2 total) are the only ones showing leaves as of yet, so keep your fingers crossed for me.lol What kind of willow..I'll pot those up too!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

DDe, I had to watch the movie twice. I love your place!! Now mine is in all sun, which is quite the opposite of yours. However, my goal is to have it become as inviting as your place is. I doubt I will finish before I die, but I will die trying!! I think on your saddest day you could be uplifted by spending time in that lovely peaceful garden.

Charlene

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

DDe, What is the name of the lavender with purple flowers and conical shaped plant?

Charlene

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Ah, David that just made my day...Such a relaxing and beautiful home you have created. Charlene is right, you could feel better on the saddest day there. I will make it a priority to come and see it! Thank you for sharing that :)

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Cocoa, They are from a black willow http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/62607/
Its not the best yard tree but they grow wild here.
Im pretty sure I gave you 4 cuttings of the Almond Verbina so anything else is the willow. Im glad to hear you are getting roots!! It gives me hope lol!
Caren

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OK David.. I am convinced... I will be # 1 to come to your place in the fall.... It took over 2 hours to download your slideshow.. Dial up!... but it was worth the wait!! Just tooo gorgeous!!

Yep.. I'm # 1...LOL

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I had to take off my screensaver, it kept timing out. But I finally got to view the wonderful slide show of your property and flowers. All very nicely shown, you got a great presentation there David!
