Does anyone know what this is?

Hinesburg, VT

Southerners call it the "Nine O'Clock" flower. It could be a wild flower and grows in full sun. The flowers are yellow and in the lily family. At 9:00 the bush shakes and the flowers open and then the next day, the flowers die and the cycle begins all over again. I don't have a photo and wondered if anyone knew the botanical or another common name. Thanks.

I found this person's blog where they have a pic and a description that fits yours. Their plant is an evening primrose (Oenothera) which is not in the lily family though so maybe it's not the same as yours. http://newday-lisa.blogspot.com/2007/08/this-is-our-nine-oclock-flower-that-our.html Given you said yours is a bush though I suspect yours isn't in the lily family either.

I agree with Ecrane, I know of no lily that grows into a bush, sounds like evening primrose to me, but I have never noticed mine shake either, I would'nt call mine a bush but rather a large clump or perennial growth that looks thick and has many stems, the flowers last only one day though and mine are sort of peach in colour rather than the strong yellow flowered perfumed ones, but the still smell good, just not as strong smelling as others of the same family. good luck.
