What's next? The 3-eyed fish from Springfield?

Kaysville, UT(Zone 5b)

I could not believe what I pulled out of my garden today! One beautiful radish with perfect form, one siamese twin radish and a triple siamese radish! Does anyone know what causes this? Any way to avoid it in the future?

Hah, those look neat actually.

No idea how to prevent it though.

Those are very interesting. I would guess more then seedling grew together, ie. they weren't thinned, or if you did thin them you just missed a couple, OR as they were growing they ran into a rock that the radish had to grow around.

I don't think it was two or three that grew together, if you look at the red on them they seem as if they split and tried to form their own bulbs.

I love radish sandwiches and those look like some great slicers to me.

Some of ours a couple of years ago produced multiple roots, too.

Wow! those are pretty funky looking What causes this? Is it just something that radishes do? Is it pretty common?

I don't have rocks in my soil to split them, so it has to be something genetic, right?

The only think that I could find referring to "fanging" was about carrots, and referenced too much manure added.

Houston, TX

I have read before that if a root finds a rock, it will sometimes split to grow around the rock. I don't know if this helps or not, but there you go.

That sounds like a good explanation, Hastur. Kind of like meeting resistance and going around it.

I think the pictures look pretty cool.

Almost looks like they could wear little pants.
