you'er a gardener Dyane, so it's all relative! if anyone's off track it's me, i think. I'm definitely not a Northeasterner. But, I like this forum/thread (and the PNwest threads) because the people are nice and funny, we grow many of the same plants. And the early birds are online with me when the PNWesterners aren't!!

Spring Blooms - Part 13
Amazing that your mom was a grandma at 38, Dyane. No problem with going off topic - we do it all the time. And Shelly, you're certainly no outsider here! Great hellebore and I love that side by side of the geraniums!
My younger sister was a gramma at 41, and I thought that was young. I'm glad I won't be for awhile yet.
RC those two flowers do belong together
just don't ask me for the names! Ok, in about 10 minutes you can!
I'm not sure who this is, for years I thought that it was betty boop, but then I pulled the two plants apart the other day and.... well waddya know, that tag was on the other plant! Go figure. when this one opens a little more it's a spackling of red and white.
Similar colors. Betty is beautiful!
Happy to see all these wonderful plants and pictures. Love the roses Cinn. twist and Samba. I am always happy to see that old iris 'Wabash'. And I need to get trollius after seeing DyanesGarden photo.
I took a break from planting for a bit mid day and snapped away. I made a few collages as I hate downloading each picture. Here are some new blues. Patti
You make wonderful groupings! I like how you group the flower colors together.

Laurel, I have all the names in my journal, but bone tired tonight. I will post the list when I recover. It would require thinking. Not up to that and my back is as tight as the strings on a banjo from moving heavy containers today. Here are a few on the west side. I have too many, but I try to over winter so many things and then do seedlings and how can I pass up a nice 6 pack? Beer or Plants. Patti
Redchic01, Lewesia, I keep seeing this plant and am afraid to try it. It looks like something I could kill while drinking just one beer. You are in Oregon and can grow such amazingly big and healthy plants. Anyone in NE ever grow Lewesia? Patti
Beautiful Patti! Your yard must be a wonderland for a gardener!
well Patti, I think that you could manage to grow Lewesia there if you make sure that the plant gets the water bottle and you get the beer bottle! Darn it those suggestive messages I think I need a beer now! I can't speak for the northeast persay, but I do know what kills them the easiest.... good soil, and lots of water. Strange huh! they love fast draining soil. If I were going to plant one in a pot, I would make the soil about 1/2 soil, 1/4 compost or crud... that mossy stuff, and 1/2 pearlite (or something similar) and mix well. That's the sort of mixture I use when I plant them in the garden. They actually do really well with pretty good amounts of water if it drains fast. There's one species that's a really cute native here that likes to grow on rocky outcrops on the mountain tops. Go figure, it's pretty harsh there and they like it! Not sure about the beer though!
Celeste, Ha, Only if I don't show you the bad parts, and I still have some. Chicken wire cages, old boats, unfinished fence (not my fault), but I am working on all those faults. Plus the yard is now a foot deep with grass/weeds as the mowing guys haven't come for two weeks. Yikes. I almost stepped on a snake today as I couldn't see it. The beds are in pretty good shape as I am a weeding fool. Boojum got me to take up dead heading seriously by example which has made a huge difference in the way I think it looks. But thanks for the compliment. Patti
redchic01, I have all kinds of sandy and crappy soil. I will give it a go. I saw some in one of my favorite nurseries in Vt so I will pick one up this month. Thanks. Patti
ok... my fractions didn't add up up there, maybe I shouldn't have that beer! 1/4 soil, 1/4 compost or the mossy stuff, and 1/2 perlite or pumice or other small rock stuff.
Notice the rocky soil?! :-p
Dwain I'm in your corner with the latin names. It's just easier to remember common names, I appreciate those who have a great mental library of so many plants though.
Also My "in the hanger" count went like this GIRL 1955,GIRL1957 ,GIRL 1958 ,GIRL 1959. Hanger empty now .
Jo Ann...my Mothers hanger run was just the opposite....all those 50's are boys the only girl was born in 1960, ME! LOL
