Today's Weather in Your Garden - 22

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

70 now on Nantucket with a light breeze. I could be out working still, but overdid it today.

Drum roll, please, as my biggest eyesore got moved today. The old boat is now out of sight. DH was a dear as he had to brush cut the new area in the heat. Then a very complicated moving of the boat in a very tight space that was a most difficult spot to back the boat into. DH owned a big yard for years, so he is very good with trailers, but this was tough. Lots of me yelling directions. We also had to had dig a big trench to allow the boat to slide into the space where we wanted it due to the prop being below grade. It was a tad hot to be digging a trench though the new brush cut area. I was giving up hope that we would "Getter Done" in 08, but we did it. The open view without the boat is major to me. No pictures as I am too tired to lift the camera. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats on the boat move, Patti. More room for plants. At least a boatload.

True, Pirl. And it's usually the grooms who close to fainting...

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Did I hear thunder enthusiasm? I knew I liked it here.

Patti - what a trooper he is! Can't wait to see those pics.

How was the Cape, Pirl?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 89.2°, Wind SSW 7.3 mph, Rh 41%. ☺
(soil temp 81° @ 5pm, 6" depth)

-I'm watering my garden anyway, I don't trust these weather guys anymore!

- Thanks Laurel, that clematis vine is 8' tall, it left the trellis 2 ft ago and wants to climb my roof! lol)

'Mom' feeding the kids on top of my bonsai table cover this am. ☺

Cute!

Victor, Thanks, your thread on vision for our gardens got me to seriously decide it was a huge priority. I only want a shrub or small tree to anchor the exiting entrance to our woodland dell and stream. Of course I will what some narcissus, muscari etc. for spring and some filler plants for the summer.

I am going to go to the nursery and see what looks good. This spot gets great afternoon sun and early morning sun too. Deer and rabbit issue as this is not fenced. I have so many viburnums but one more would be fine. Winter interest would be good. I could plant a stand of variegated red twig dogwood. The beds opposite have rug juniper, sweet fern, JMaple, Inkberry, Mugo Pine, Iris and tons of bulbs. Any Ideas?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The deer never bothered my red-twigs. How is the moisture in the area? Average? What about crape myrtle? It does get cool bark and deer leave it alone. Acer griseum?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

WC2, Love the blue jays. What happened to the male that got shot by your neighbor?

Thanks Nanegoat66, The empty spot has just been filled with another boat. But this one is smaller and is only there to get the bottom painted and the bright work done. DH will launch it this week. I have already made a new spot for it to winter in that is less visible too. It has only take 22 years to get this figured out.

Anyone having sever weather now? Sounds like some people are going to get 3" of rain. I could use some, but don't want to have all the iris flattened. Hope Boojum's are OK. Patti

Not a smigling of a drop yet.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The line is getting closer. Parts of NJ should be getting it now.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... Anyone's guess bbrookrd, but nature is not kind to the weak or injured.

It's clear as a bell out there where's the rain!?

Stay tuned, WC.

Cape Cod was delicious, as always.

Lobster Benedict was a piece of heaven!

Not a seafood person here. I'll take your word for it!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We just got a severe t-storm warning until 9.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

It's finally cool, all the windows open with a nice breeze blowing through. Thunderstorms off and on earlier with 1/2" total rain - not bad after so long without.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm starting to hear the thunder to the southwest.

Who's hoarding the rain.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Seeing some lightning now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Here too! This is through a screen.

Thunder, lightning and RAIN! My lights have been flickering and I hope the power doesn't go out because we really need the air conditioning. Big booms!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You might not need the A/C after the front goes through.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Storm just came and went. Victor that lightning shot is so cool! How do you know just when to click to get that kind of shot?

Patti, congratulations on moving the boat!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You're in for more, Harper. There is a whole band that has to work its way through. Getting much cooler! You have to do a long exposure - I did 8 seconds - and hope for a strike, and then not move when it does (if you're not using a tripod - I was not).

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yup, I just noticed on the neat-o radar. I love technology!

Ooops. Here it comes. Going to turn 'puter off and close the windows.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No storms, lightning or rain here...yet.

Loved that shot, Victor! Thanks for telling us how to capture it. I shake so much that if I held the camera for 8 seconds it would look like it was a contrived photo.

Nice and cool in the house now!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Pirl. I rested the camera on the windowsill, but held it as I tilted it upward.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I hope those cooling storms are heading my way. I just went outside to put a ring around my peonies so they don't all topple if it rains and it was still so hot and humid that I worked up a sweat just wrestling the peony into submission.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Storm passed again.

I wonder if my camera even has an 8 second setting. I have a tripod. That's easy.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 80.4°, wind WSW 19.3 mph, Rh 54%. ☺

Jezz, it must be really hot in NH!

Clouds rolling in from the West now, getting humid & lots of static on the radio, lights flickering now and then . - Coolness must be approaching!
hopefully ☺

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning everybody
Blessed cool night for a change TODAYS HI 81*
Night low 50's
The fall bulbe from Brent and Beckies have shot out of the ground, hope they don't get confused.

Last night we had one heck of a light show. Cooler temps and no humidity.

Lost power at 10 p.m. just got it back. Mother nature had control of the TV flicker last night.

Wow Victor nice pic.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

71 here but not sunny. I'm still hoping for rain.

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

72 but feels like 60. Never got the great storms, only wind, but it did the trick: humidity is gone. Off for a bike ride...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

70 and sunny.

Forgot - last night I saw lightning bugs.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Awesome pic. Victor !!!

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

75 here with 53% humidity. It's warming up but nothing like what we experienced over the last 4 days.

I saw lightning bugs for the first time last night, too!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Stupid question coming from the opposite side of the country: What SHOULD the weather be like right now for those of you having this heat spell ?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Mike. We should be having low 80's.
