Today's Weather in Your Garden - 22

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Most of the school do not have air conditioning except in the main office and sometimes the auditorium. School budgets get turned own for other, more essential items so air conditioning is the last thing they want to spring for. I feel for the high school students who may be taking regents exams. Besides, ours is a huge school system.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

So growing up in Oklahoma with no AC anywhere until I was in Junior High and then still a rarity and certainly never in school. I don't ever remember school being let out early for heat. But then we did get out at Memorial Day and went back Labor Day. I do remember having to have class in a trailer when the school was too full and that was like being in an oven as they stuck it in the middle of a parking lot, not a tree near in sight. But then my mom tells me stories of the "old days" too. I assume it is a money thing, more than the heat. Our heat was highest the last two days at 10 in the morning. But not nearly what many of you are having. Pleasant now. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, this is early Jen. In our case, the elementary and middle schools don't have A/C. The others do.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

hot...hot... hot... frying roses weather!!!!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i went to Catholic school in STL, no A/C (high school had it in the office , faculty lounge, and library). It had to be over 90 before noon (i think) for us to get early dismissal for heat, but it always happened a few times a year. But we didn't go this late into the summer either - i think late May was it. But we went back in late August, and that was the worst.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Well over here in Garden City, they hardly close schools, and they did not today! I know that in my nephew's school , Tenafly,, NJ they did. But what if the rest of the school year is like today????? So when will the kids finish school, I know my children were hot today at school, but hey, cope with it, it was not 120, less thn 100. The school district where my kids go hardly close, snow, rain or sleet, if bad weather happens, they open 1 hour later. Some districts are better than others or some districts are more caring than others, but we need to wake up and smell the coffee, the kids need to finish this school year and if you close every day this week because it is hot, well, then they will not have a break, Just a thought! i am glad though that my district did not close! CLemen

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

We had early dismissal, I think just an hour earlier than the normal day. And let me tell you, those high schools get HOT! I can remember taking the regents and sweating (not from the tests!) Very hard to concentrate, and it's tough on the kids with health issues.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

The late ending of schools has caused many new England kids to not get many of the good summer jobs. Many businesses need them before late June. I know I did in both Nantucket and Vt.

I also don't see what closing schools do for many kids who don't have AC at home unless they go to a mall to chill. It is hot at home for those kids and totally screws up the parent (s) schedules. Mine is now grown and living in NOL and I know it is hot and humid down there for sure. He doesn't mind the heat. Good thing as he works in a kitchen. Patti

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Now you guys know what WE went through at the end of April !

We always started school in September in the middle of a heat wave, and got out in the middle of June gloom.

Are we still blaming Al Gore for this freaky waether ???

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Another humid day but temps down 10 degrees, calling for severe thunder showers.
WISH we would get a nice steady rain at night, these isolated showers only dampen everything, doesn't even get wet under the trees.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I can add to the 'hot, hot' hot' thread!
It never got lower than 65 last night ... which, all things considered, wasn't too bad, I guess.

Right now it's 66° with the humidity at 94%!!
Gonna be another uncomfortable day today!!

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Good morning all... 67 now, heading for high 80's. Although I like this weather, my dogs do not. Gotta get 'em swimming! This is from last year:

78 and humid. One more real bad day. Better tomorrow.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

67 now and humidity at 81% which is not bad. But I am inside at the moment and the heat should really start to build this hour. I think I may go for a boat ride and fall overboard if it is really hot.

Nanygoat66, great cooling picture. Beagle? My dogs have taken to going down to my new endless stream and laying in the deepest part. I made the mistake of leaving the front door open after one of their dips. They soaked the floors and splattered the walls as they shook off as they trotted through the house on their way out to see me on the porch. Messy, but funny. I made about the same kind of mess with my dirty shoes. Stay cool all if you can. Patti

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Aren't they a riot, Patti? You don't worry about your liner being ripped by puppy toes? We adopted the beagle in ME last year. We also have a wheaten terrier. They have the run of our house, too. Wouldn't want it any other way.

Enjoy your day, everybody!

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

I just came in to sit down after watering the plants outdoors. It was so hot, I was beginning to feel sick! My clothing is soaked but at least the plants will be happy!

86 according to the on-line weather but it feels like 91. Hot, hot, hot!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

86 * at 7:00 a.m. ???????? YIKES !

89 and humid. Yuck!!

It has gone up 2 degrees since I posted that pic less than an hour ago. I think we are all going to pass out like our plants. Well that is if they dont get any water.

They have issued tornado warnings from Pa, Ma, Ct, and VT. No NH yet though. Heck I live like 10 miles to the VT border !

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

"Live free of die" includes tornado's i guess

I'm going out running again, they claim it is only 82 here in Cambridge where I work. better wear long sleeves.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Running?! That's crazy! I worked out before in my basement before and was dragging myself.

I am one degree off from the news at noon. This is not cool at all.

It's more humid today, waitng for the storms to cool things off. Could barely stand to go snap a few pics and run back inside.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it looks like we're in for it later. Some tornado watches being issued.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

99, nuff said. yuk

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Been out tying tomatoes to their cages and while its unpleasant for us, the squash, peppers and tomatoes sure love it. Blossoms everywhere. Not going to be much if any fruit set in this heat and humidity but the lushiness of the foliage is getting things off to a great start.

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

You have the shore breeze where you are, David?
I worked at 'Ponds' for four years. Clinton is gorgeous, but oh, so, busy in the summer.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

97 degrees outside. 86 degrees and 74% humidity indoors. I have no air conditioning. I might go down to the basement.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

very hot/humid out there - need to run to work off the soda's. no pleasure without some pain.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I am not happy with the humidity, but I am very grateful for the breeze that is coming up now.

Starting to get clouds and breeze.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Guess you could say that it's warm outside ...

Current Temp: 98°
Wind: SW at 12
Humidity: 32%
Dewpoint: 64°
Pressure: 29.81 in. and falling

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

My temps are pretty much identical to yours Candyce. I would have thought you'd be a bit cooler in the Monadnock Region.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

What weather we've all been having!

Left for Cape Cod last Thursday and had our winter jackets on all day Thursday. We even stayed inside on the ferry because it was too cold, windy and rainy otherwise. Cape Cod was too cool Thursday and Friday and then too warm and much too humid on Saturday and Sunday (high 70's) but much better than we'd have had here in Southold. Quite warm (breathtaking in several ways) at Kassia's! We're home and happy to have the AC going full blast!

There must have been a wild storm here while we were gone. Many limbs and trees down just 12 to 14 miles from us at the tip of L.I. Just one big brand of a Crape Myrtle down here.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Its comming down in sheets right now.
Hope the humidity clear out after this.

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Welcome home, pirl!

95 in the mid-Hudson region.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks. 90 here but cool and comfy inside. For once I have no urge to even go out and look at a thing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Welcome back Pirl. Can't wait for the t-storms!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Victor. I doubt if any of us are being unreasonable in simply wanting June weather in June. I can't imagine how brides felt over this last weekend. I can envision scores of them fainting in church.

Last night the Weather Channel showed the northwest could expect up to 12" of snow!
