I have a large barrel in the front of our home and I need some good flowers to plant in it. It gets full sun most of the day (until at least 3 pm). I am in Keller, TX (Zone 7) so heat is an issue. I have tried planting gerber daisies as well as hydrangeas and both of these do not hold up in the heat. I had begonias last year but I would like something different. If anyone has any suggestions for me that would be great. Thanks for your help!!

Flowers for Barrel
Portulaca, also known as moss rose, should hold up for you.
I would think any of the annuals that like a lot of sun would work: zinnias, marigolds, nasturtiums, etc.
Thank you all for responding. I will look this weekend and see what I can find. I am excited to see if I can get the yard looking nice. Thanks again!!
Laura Bush Petunias will grow anywhere here in our zone 8b even in full sun. We have pitched some over the fence and now have some blooming in the pasture. ;)
Verbena is very hardy in heat too. Dwarf cannas.

If you want a hardy plant to return next year you could try a Russian sage.
Nasturtiums for sure. They love lousy soil, lots of sun and drought. Abuse them as you will and they will give you lots of flowers.
