Does salvia (the kind we plant as an annual here in the midwest) need to be deadheaded to keep blooming? And conversely, if a bloom gets pulled off, say by a 2 1/2 year old, will the plant bloom again?
annual salvia
Deadheading is helpful in keeping salvia in bloom and neat looking. It will continue to bloom without deadheading, but the plant won't look as nice. If someone, say a 2 1/2 year old, pulls a bloom off a plant, it WILL bloom again. That's called premature deadheading. For several years I had a prematurely deadheaded garden. My son still eats the oranges off my miniature orange trees the minute they turn orange. It makes my mouth water just thinking about the sourness of those things!
