It is almost time for my vacation and I was wondering if any had any ideas about keeping my container veggies alive???? Last year, my FIL & Grandma watered them( well not much for the heat!) and when I got home, things were sagging and drying something terrible! I am grateful for their help, but I think I might need a "plan B" just to be sure. Any Ideas? Should I move them into shady areas for those days? Thanks
Watering while on vacation???
Ever heard of an olla? I am using faux ollas in my containers this year. I went to Goodwill and bought those terracotta wine coolers, sunk them in the containers, filled them with water, put a terracotta saucer lid on them and they are working really well for me. Google olla for more information on them.
Wow! that sounds like an idea! I may have to go see what I can find. I can't use them if they are too big, I am afraid I won't have room in my containers....
Thanks for the idea!
My faux ollas are 5" across. I have them in pots that are 16" across along with 2 plants in the pot. They have to be unglazed and most of those that were sold for wine coolers were unglazed. If they won't work for you this year, maybe you can find some and sink them in your pots next year and then plant around them.
