Karen - Looks like you've done some great crossing of your MGs! They are all beautiful!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Whatever happened to the DGer Ron_____________ (can't spell the botanical name)?
Where are you all getting your seeds to grow such wonderful MG?

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks luvsgrtdanes and beckygardener. :)

gessiegail, The last time I saw Ron was here.

I have been collecting seeds buying from everyone I could find on ebay for the last 3 years. I also have been doing selective breeding and crossing and then more selective breeding. I also save the seeds off the best plants I like by tying blooms to avoid cross pollination issues. It saves me money if I can try and maintain a variety than to buy again. I also have done plenty of trading with DG members and have been the recipient of generous gifts. I also have done give aways and sent people seeds just `cause.

Karen

P.S. I love growing from seeds and I love taking pictures. I enjoy the pictures almost as much as my garden. This picture is two plants I raised from seeds I collected from my garden. This is a peachy/orange canna and a purple hige vine(ipomea purpurea)

Wow, what a canna! This morning glory thing is new to me. I am going to grow them out (all 9 cultivars) and I don't care if they cross. I just want seeds for next summer so I don't have to start from the beginning. If I get good, I will start buying and trading for seeds. Sometimes these whims only last a summer!

I love a camera like you do. It is always ready for a flower of any kind.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I can`t possibly tie all my blooms so I grow the open pollinated seeds too.

I finally got my Fuji No Monet from ebay this year. :)

It looks like there were different stem colors on the cotyledons so I`ll follow up on the other vines later.

Here is comparison with some of my other youjiros. Karen

Karen, I love the Youjiro's more all the time. Very pretty.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I really like the dark one!!!

Mesilla Park, NM

I like all those spokes... good to see that the Fuji no Monet came out the way it is supposed to..

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi, Thanks. I got another interesting one this morning. It was from one was supposed to be a Giant Konoko but it turned out to be a Giant Konoko Not. The parent vine of this one was a sort of mauve colored brushed and spoked large flower. Now we have this interesting pattern that reminds of of "ray flow" on the yoneda web site.

Note: I didn`t say my flower has "ray flow" but I said it resembles "ray flow". What do you think?

This one is the Kikyo Ice this morning.

I bought a kikyo mix from Onalee on ebay and here is the first flower. I like it. Karen

Last but not least, this one is from the large flower pink blizzard x blue kikyo and it shows the striations today and even a few blizzard spots. This vine has single and also very doubled blooms on the same vine.

Karen

Edited to add: This blue flower is the same vine at the beginning of this thread. The blooms range from single to very doubled.

Kikyo Ice is a show stopper. I'm in love.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Your Kikyo Ice is really a different looking bloom pattern. Very pretty!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Patootie and Beckygardener, Thanks. I have to do another grow out in the fall to check and see if it is more consistent and is not throwing too many variations. Time will surely tell.

Karen, your thread is ablaze with beautiful blooms!!! Well done!
Kim

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Kim! I have also been blazing a trail through the garden every morning checking these out. I can see the worn places in the grass lol!

Karen

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I found a interesting one this morning. It isn`t the best picture because the sun was melting it but I like it. Karen

Thumbnail by gardener2005
Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I like it too, very different!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Another one. These are getting smaller toward the ends of the vine like normal. The progressive lightening is showing. I held it up because the sun was melting it. Gee, I would have started over on this side of the garden if only I had known.

Karen

Thanks Kim. That one is a "find" from some seeds I started this year. The second blue striped one is from a kikyo(star shaped small flower) x large flower blizzard pink F2 grow out. Now I see a intermediate size bigger than the kikyo but smaller than the other large flower parent.

Now,I will have to be greedy and gather all the seeds so I can grow a bunch of selfed pods from this to see if I can "find" it again. :)

Later on after I establish the type and get everything producing consistent seeds I`ll be able to share these.

KAREN, I really like the white with light purple streaks and bars, very pretty.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Patootie, That is the exact same vine as the first picture on this thread. It looks like a progressive white blizzard. It reminds me of a kaleidoscope the way the blooms change.

The one you like is different from the others and might show more variations. Karen

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Karen, can't wait to see what you get in further grow outs on some of these.
Love this mornings blooms. Joseph grew a Kawaii last yr but a different color.
Send us a pic please Joseph.

Lol Dana

Mulberry, FL

Sorry Joesph, awesome flowers!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Here is the Kawaii Joseph grew.

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/122883/

It came in a mix and I happened to get a chocolate and one was pink iirc. Karen

There are many pictures in the plant files. The Kawaii has small thin solid green leaves. Some of the pictures in the Kawaii section are Sunsmiles. The Sunsmiles have broader variegated leaves but the flowers look very similar.

I really like this little plant.

The link doesn`t work. Just type in "kawaii" and it appears.

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/search.php?Search=Search+plants

The links aren`t doing right.

Go to guides and information, then plant files and then search plants. Type in kawaii.

Nice assortment of blooms, Karen! :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Karen. I did not realize Kawaai came as a mix.
Your first link worked for me. Loved all the colors shown and your
chocolate bloom above.

Karen, this is the ffo on the grow out seed that you gave away at jeri's last fall. Cindy sprouted it and brought one to me as I was not able to do much in the early spring.
It measured 4 inches and the foliage is variegated.

Morganc, I noticed you asked about growing in our heat. I ordered some plants and they are blooming but next year I am either going to start them (the actual plant ) (or seeds in January) outside in March. I am too late this year .

On the other hand, I thought about starting the plants outside in late September and enjoying them through the fall here in south Texas.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi All,

Fall is a great time to grow JMG.

Remember the Sazanami give away last year?

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/759984/

They were open pollinated Sazanami seeds I gave out in a thread. I kept some for myself and grew them out this year. Here is a result picture from this morning. It is different than the first vine where I got the seeds because the blizzard progresses lighter.
