how to grow lilac in hou tx in a planter
If you're determined to plant a lilac in a planter, I would try something like a Dwarf Korean Lilac, 'Palibin'. It's height at maturity is 4 to 5 feet with about the same spread. Korean lilacs have a nice rounded shape.
You also ought to check around for varieties that will bloom well in your zone--if I recall correctly other people around here who are from Houston list themselves as zone 9, and that means you don't have enough winter chill for many lilac cultivars to flower. We have the same problem here and I know there are a couple cultivars that have been developed to bloom in warmer winter climates so you definitely ought to look for those. Unfortunately I'm not sure if there are nice dwarf ones that will also bloom for you, that might be asking a lot!
