Is it just the flowers fading, or is the whole plant dying? Alyssum seems to bloom pretty much nonstop, I've never had to cut it back but the dianthus might benefit from deadheading to keep it blooming. But if the leaves are having problems too and not just the flowers then there's something else going on. Watering issues (usually too much, but sometimes too little) are probably the #1 issue that people run into. Or since you just got these recently, if you planted them in the garden it could be a little transplant shock, a lot of times plant know they need to work on getting their roots going, so they'll forget about flowers for a little while until the roots get going, but then they'll come back and flower later so there may be nothing to worry about.

I agree. A dianthus doesn't take as much water as most plants. Are they going yellow? Brown? As for dead-heading, just pull off the tops of the dianthus flower. I don't know anything about assylum.
