Crape Honeysuckles

Charleston, WV

I bought one of these from Lowe's a little while ago and planted it. The spot I planted it in has arid soil (like the tag said it should have), and not much else will grow there. But willl this plant last a winter in West Virginia?

Are you sure on the name? I've never heard of Crape Honeysuckle, but there is Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis) It's only hardy to zone 9 so definitely won't survive your winters. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=tecomaria&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

Yes, I meant cape honeysuckle--sorry--I planted a crape myrtle shrub today too, so it was on my mind. Do you thing the cape honeysuckle will come back next spring? It was only $7.98, so I may just leave it and try anyway.

I'd say your chances are very slim. These are only hardy to zone 9, I'm not sure what zone you're in but I think WV is zone 5/6 so that makes it highly unlikely that it would survive. If you were in zone 8 or maybe 7b and had a mild winter it might come back from the roots, but I think zone 5/6 is just too far away from its hardiness range, I'd be very surprised if it came back.
