Debbie. I lust after that rangoon creeper. My husband is thinking of laying a small brick patio in the back and putting up a trellis for some shade. I said I already have in mind what vine to plant beside it!

My very first daylily ever bloomed Saturday. It's a NOID from Mitch.

The Texas bed: Clasping Coneflower, Purple Coneflower, Rudbeckia Hirta, Greenthread, Poppy Mallow, Gaillardia aristata, Johnny Jump-Ups, Prickly Pear, Giant Gaura, Red Yucca, Sedum 'Vera Jameson', Cowpen Daisies, Bear Grass, and at least 2 different types of Pincushion Cactus with that slow-growing Chittamwood tree on the side.

Bronc ~ missed something, explain "Fairy Tale" plants please?

Pretty blooms everyone. It is amazing to see the transition from spring to summer.

Bronc~Your Texas bed is wonderful! I love it!

Here ya go, Pod http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/849/

All right! I noticed the Mullien in your bed. Didn't know it was called that, sorry. I love that plant. It grows along the ditches here. I have tried digging up and replanting but not successful. Did you start yours from seed?

It is an old time medicinal and herbal plant which adds to its' "fairy tale" charm. A 92 YO customer of ours tells of his Mamma using it when the children had earaches. One book I use indicates oil from the flowers is good for earaches. This plant is a recommended must for the medicinal garden. Nice choice!

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Pod! I have not planted even one Mullein. They just pop up and I let them grow. I did dig one up for my sister earlier in the spring and she said it's doing just fine. I have tried making a tea from the dried leaves for an expectorant, but it didn't work. I probably did something wrong. Shall I save some seeds for you?

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

TJ, your Texas Garden is looking good!!

Carla

If you should have a few to spare, I would love to try it from seed. I suspect the taproot was too long and I disturbed it when I moved it. Will gladly share plants/seeds or reimburse postage. Just let me know when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will look for medicinal use preparation info.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Steph and Carla! It's come a long way! I'm planning on relocating the prickly pear and pincushion cactus later in the summer. They are getting crowded out by the wildflowers.

Pod, I'm sure I will have plenty of seeds as I have 8 plants blooming this year.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

You said they pop up all over... by seed or by roots do you think?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

By seed. They are biennials and do not send out runners.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Bronc... I've just read that. Getting an education! 8 )
