got all mine going
bloom master 2008
Very nice. I like #4. Those are going to be so pretty when they fill out. Please post pictures when they do. I remember the ones you had last year. Beautiful.
thank you.... funny how I seem to like the coleus better in these.... the petunias petered out too fast for me last year... but i put them in anyway
So Allison, did you start those inside or buy them, I forget? Or both?
Carrie
both... and some were the bought cuttings that I rooted... don't know how to count those
Sub one.
I am still amazed how many of those cuttings made it... i would say just about all of the wandering jew... more than 3/4 of the trailing lobiela ... and most of the coleus... totally worth it... and some of those coleus are from the plants I bought last year .... going to be sure to take some early cuttings of all of that to start for next year
Trailing lobelia? You overwintered trailing lobelia? I did not catch that before. That is amazing, I am very impressed, as that is one of my favorite plants!
I bought cuttings ... took a dip in root hormone and coved... worked the same as the coleus
ya know what?? you made a sale to me for them! I bought three hanging baskets and one box and i need to get them filled ASAP! They said they would stick a sheet with instructions in the box...but i didn't find it.. Do you just use a regular potting mix? I LOVE it!! Mine will be full sun and I'm thinking lots of petunias :)
:)
Susan
i just went ot the web site.. Potting Mix! :)
I usually lighten the load of even light potting mix... these baskets weigh a ton.... vermiculite or perlite usually whatever i have left over from the winter cuttings... last year i mixed in some peat too... and lots and lots of soil moist.... keep in mind it takes a while to run the water through them.... i usually water 2 or 3 times until i see the water coming out of the holes in the bottom.... not just the sides
i watered once and went to do something else... to let that first batch soak in... then again.... they are so deep sometimes the water comes pouring out the sides and doesn't reach the bottom.....
also make sure you leave room at the top for water collection... i planted two of them too high last year and the water would just pour off ... was a real pain... would take me 15 mins to water those two... pour in a little and wait for it to soak in... pour in a little and wait... etc
DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE
:)
GOT IT!! :) I love learing from others mistakes!! :) Thanks!!
Susan
me too!... the holes are pretty small hard to get some 3" pots in depending on the shape.... the rectangle top doesn't work
some I was able to pass through on the inside if the plant was small and root ball was too big
kind of the reason I did so many cuttings this year.... can fit as many as I wanted in the slots even though the plants are smaller now I hope it makes up for it with the quantity I planted... I added some newspaper behind the holes to hold the dirt in the spots the roots weren't big enough for... otherwise the dirt will just pour out the holes when watered.... even if you water easy... just praying it doesn't get too root bound with number of plants in there... but we will find out soon enough
:)
edit for typo & another thought... in my first post you can see the plug pack over on it's side... that 2" plug tray fit perfectly in the holes.. same shape.... going to keep them for next years seedlings... bad news is they came from park seed... which I know they are hit or miss
