We are planning to use a drip system on our azaleas during the summer months. It is often hot and dry here, especially in July (sometimes no rainfall at all). What is the optimum amount of water to give these mature bushes (i.e. gallons per hour every____days?). We will be traveling this summer and won't have the opportunity to turn the water off (should we have a nice rain), or incresase it should it be especially dry. Although it has rained quite a bit during the spring and even during May, we don't want to go away and return only to see dried up azaleas! What we need is a ballpark figure to give these bushes enough water to keep them healthy.
