New Transplant to the SoCal...

Mmmm, yes, Irish Coffee,too.....that's the problem with memories...lol...some of them we don't remember. As has been said of the 60's.."if you remember it, then you weren't there"

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

These stories you all are telling remind me of when Lucy did her "Vitameatavegamin" commercial.

My 2 youngest sisters once ate an entire 3 layer RUM CAKE when they were 5 and 6 years old. Actually, it was MY fault: I didn't know the cake had rum in it. I was babysitting them and thought it was cute the way they were stealing tastes of the frosting, so I took the cake out of the box and said they could eat as much as they wanted. (I was only 12 at the time.)

I left them in the kitchen and went to watch tv. They were giggling and laughing so I thought it was no big deal.

Then it suddenly got very quiet in the kitchen.

I went in there and they were practically passed out...frosting in their hair, on their clothes, in their ears, all over their faces, the walls, etc.

They had this glazed look to them and then they started moaning and groaning...

3 guesses what happened next.
It wasn't pretty.

Crossville, TN

I'll bet you weren't so pretty when your parents got home...LOL Jo

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

No, I wasn't ! And I also never babysat again for a few years !

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Great story. lol

Jo maybe we should have poked around the back of the garden a little closer, to see what is obviously growing in the Herb family at Don and Pams.

Crossville, TN

I think so too!! LOL

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

He is just a little too abstract in thinking. There may even be some magic mushrooms growing in that garden too Jo.

Now don't those two lovely ladies in the lovely hats look like they are heading to a TEA party? Even if the one old broad's shirt does say PUB SCOUT!!

Hmmm...I do think Don is hiding something. LOL Jo

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

yep! Hot tamales in the picture. Jo I want that dang cheese cake recipe, even if I have to wait till the holidays to eat it, since I am back on my rigid eating, but I want it bad, I especially loved the pineapple one.

Crossville, TN

OK...Sending it to you. Jo

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Thanks I love it. Don't need it but....

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Hey Californians and those to be, where's all the conversation ? How is the home search going Ken ? Is the Tequila intact ? Rayman, where you be ? Sir Donald of Sunsprite, why are you denying us your wonderful wit and humor ? Check in folks, some of us wanna-be's are wondering.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I think everyone is out having a good time somewhere...I'm getting tired of prodding everyone occasionally to wake them up..gonna take my ball and go home....zonaken has probably decided that we're all nuts over here..'course, that's not too far off.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL Sherry...would that I WERE out having a good time...

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yeah, I know, me too...

Tucson, AZ

zonaken is running a little ragged these days between his new job in LA, staying in a hotel, and commuting back to Tucson on the weekends to spend time with his lovely DW. The man is losing what little hair he has left on his head. Maybe we can all start a fund to chip in and buy him a new squirrel for his dome.

Me? My oldest kid (13) decided she wanted to join a volleyball club so every night she has been dragging my lazy backside out to practice with her. Oh lordy I miss my couch. The only benefit to this is I've been able to shed a few pounds. Cant say I miss all the reality shows that are on TV these days. So my life has been pretty boring these last couple weeks and haven't had any wild and crazy adventures.

I'm not playing, I'm digging in the dirt these days. Very quiet in Calif. these days. It's sad to think that people have a life outside of Dave's!

North Augusta, ON

There's a life outside of Dave's???
Noooooo...say it ain't so!!!

If it weren't for Dave's I would die from boredom and loneliness ^_^

Crossville, TN

I am keeping VERY busy...I started taking Selenium a week ago...and my house is looking better and better...I want to slow down...do you know the antidote for Selenium? ...NO! wait...I still have 3 rooms to go. Jo

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Has zonaken found out that LA is hot like the desert he's coming from? Out of the frying pan....

Tucson, AZ

He's been bragging to me about how much cooler it is than Tucson and so far he really likes it.
Give him time and some good o'l Santa Anna winds. LOL
Hope he has his lid glued down on those days.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Jo, I checked this on Snopes, the anecdote for selenium is tequila! (just kidding about the snopes!)
Can you believe that people actually don't spend 24/7 here on Dave's???!?!!?

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Weege and I have taken count and there are a few people mucho absent lately:
Donna
Arlene
Mike
Chuck
Kanita
Don
George
We should be hearing from you guys or we're gonna take you off our Christmas card lists!
Jo,I'm taking selenium now also...hope it does that much for me.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I am taking some selenium soon too. The B complex just isn't doing it for me.
I'm sure there's others on that list we've missed...I sure everyone is ok, just check in and let us know you're doing well, that's all.

Tucson, AZ

I thought the cure for just about anything was tequila?
Somebody lied to me.

Maybe I need to check into this Senility stuff Jo is taking.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You're right Ray, tekillya is the cure!
Ummm, I don't think the stuff is for senility, it's for energy!

Tucson, AZ

Oh!!!!! I could use a good dose of senility.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You are not alone buddy. I have been so scatterbrained these past 6 months or so...could it be I'm getting older?!!?!!? NAH!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'm currently dealing with a computer that is slow as molasses and running off phone lines from 1928.
Do they still breed carrier pigeons? LOL

Where is Elizabeth??? (spin)

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Well, Mike, there you are, good to hear from you.
There's another name to add to the list Sherry, spin.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I also have tennis elbow at the moment from digging sprinkler trenches in rock hard soil with tree roots from here to Peru.....not from playing tennis. Not my idea of fun.

Tucson, AZ

I hear tequila will cure tennis elbow.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I should definitely look into that !

Crossville, TN

Yes...Drink it and rub the bottle on the elbow....

I wouldn't quit taking the B Complex...it works wonders in keeping mouth ulcers at bay.

Hi JD...you need to try the "Water Pic" to help dig in clay~!! Jo

I am not missing!! Just busy as all get out. phew!

I've been doing a lot of reorganization of my gardens this summer and I have also added to my resume, a contractor/carpenter.

As many of you know, I spend every Wed. at my dads. I love to spend quality time with him and we do lots of projects around his house. Last year I put some sprinklers in his front garden and this year he decided he needed a new Pergola built. He knows I will attempt anything and with all the knowledge I have learned from him over the years, I came up with a plan, ordered the wood and began building this Pergola in early June.

My sister, who has never done anything like this, including using "any" power tools, helped me and we just finished yesterday. We only worked on this about 2 days a week, hence the time factor of just finishing. BTW, my sister now loves POWER TOOLS!!! lol

Here is a picture of the day we finished putting the rafters on top. We still needed to put the braces up and a few other items. I forgot to take my camera up yesterday to show the finished project.

Now, you know......the rest of the story. :-)
Donna

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Donna that is amazing!! I wish I had learned to use power tools.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Donna, I hope that wasn't your dad up there taking your picture!? You never cease to amaze me girl. I would love to see more pictures of your project, what a nice daughter you are. ( You look like you've lost weight too. Looking good girl.) What a lucky guy your dad is.

Crossville, TN

Donna...I want you to tell yuour Dadd taht the next time we stop by to visit we would like to have "wine and cheese out there....

If her Dad did take the picture he was out on his back porch (with a great view)....He is a lovely man. Jo

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Thank you all for the lovely compliments.

Jo is correct, Dad was sitting up on the porch taking pictures and resting. He does have a lovely view of the L.A. Airport.
Oh, how dad would love to have you back visiting him and I know he would have a nice tray of cheese and wine to share with you.

Here he is resting after a long day of supervising. He is 88 yrs. old and is still pretty active.

Weegy, thanks girlfriend for noticing. I've lost 22 1/2 lbs so far. :-)
