One option would be to prune the invader down to a reasonable height then, using an artist's paint brush, carefully paint some Roundup on the freshly cut stems. If the stems are big enough, drill some holes into the center of each before painting on the Roundup.

Could you cut it back and stake the bottom of the plant with black vinyl to block direct light and water? Slow but might work.
