I know nothing about growing asparagus, other than that it comes back each year, and that you are not supposed to harvest it the first year. If I am not harvesting this year anyway, could I still go ahead and start some? I have a small area at the end of my rhubarb that would not get disturbed when I have it tilled. How much room does asparagus take?
Is it too late to plant asparagus in zone 5a?
My in-laws have a patch of asparagus. I think it's only about 2ft by 2ft square, it's really not very big and they get a decent amount from it. I would say go ahead and plant it. This spring has been so cold and wet anyway, and at the very worst you'll get nothing and have to plant again next year.
