my tomatos are ripening but they have a rotten spot on the bottom. I live in the desert south west.

Sounds like blossom end rot to me.
This is most likely caused by a calcium deficiency or uneven watering. I would try using an additive like liqui-cal or add gypsum to the soil to correct this problem. Don't over water...
You can add the extra calcium by buying commercial stuff; or save up eggshells, crush them and put in a bowl. Add some boiling water and when cool water the tomato plants. The shells are still good for mixing in the soil too.
