I went by Love's Lookout today and they do have BBQ pits. I think that the areas just north of the main building and rest rooms will be good for us. There are two pavillions in the area. One has 3 tables and the other has 2. Looks like they can seat 10 or more at each table. ( Depending on the size of folks :) and not saying anyone is large !!! )
If we pull up to the area then move our autos to another area to park, it will make it easy for all.
There are large trees in the area for shade which will be nice since it is getting hot.
Hope this answers any questions you may have.

And please bring as many cannas as you can to share. I only need a couple 1,000 to put everywhere. LOL All kidding aside I would be thrilled with as many as I can get of ANY KIND, even if it's just one. They all add up eventually.

With the B-days for folks coming, this may solve the request for live music......or NOT. :)
We will have a sign posted for the RU at the entrance to the Rest Area location. After talking to the folks that run the rest area, they stressed parking and not blocking any 18 wheeler trucks that may be coming into the area. ( This does not mean DGers trucks but some of you may need one.) It will be good if we unload our plants then move our cars to another parking area. There is plenty of parking just not all near the trading area.
Welcome the Frankston flash-darkmoon. Do not worry about knowing folks. I do not think many of us really know each other. We are all happy gardeners so that usually makes for good folks. Some may be characters though. This should be a fun day.
DD
hehehe characters.....hey mamajack DD is talking about you ...hahaha...just alot of fun loving gardening people.
I wanted to give some of you a few interesting things about Love's Lookout because I was raised in Jacksonville and know a few things....You can see for MILES from the top of the lookout. It is a sight to behold. When you drive into the park, you will see a big old firetower looming up above. It used to be open to the public in the 50's - 60's to climb up, until someone fell to their death. Now it's chained up, but still there. There is a huge ampitheater made completely of iron ore rock in the middle of the trees also....My dad was a real character, he got drunk once as a young man during WWII, and on a dare, rode a horse up and down the ampitheater steps. It is worth trying to see while you are there. It's within the beginnings of the forest, so you have to peek for it, Lots of trees.
When I was a child, no one had their own swimming pools. Love's Lookout had a nightclub (juke joint honkeytonk) after hours, and a HUGE olympic sized public pool. We all had to travel out from 50 miles around and pay a fee to swim there. They had locker rooms, and a 100 year old man who was scary that ran the little snack bar they had. The entire pool area was painted with huge murals of Popeye, Olive Oil, and SweePea....Long deserted, but if you crawl through just one fence you can still go down and view...LOL! Love's Lookout played a big memory of my childhood, but I couldn't tell you who built it or why.
You'll enjoy these photos then:

On the left, click on the Lookout photos. The amphitheater and pool are all pictured!

ok kids ...hehehehe
since we are getting so long on some threads and some are having trouble finding everything I've put together a list of all the links for the RU and posted it here.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/861787/
I hope this helps those of you that are having trouble finding the trades plus it has the potluck and head count threads.
Thank you so much Dave! I enjoyed the photos very much....
mamajack, I do believe my cannas are Orange Beauty. They are obscenely tall with very full, vivid bright orange flower heads and solid green leaves
Heavinscent, I would like to trade for a NOID fruiting banana tree if you have one left.
Mibus2, I'd like some of your African Violets..
okie dokie got ya down.
Ill get you down!
Caren
I thought about this last night when I couldn't sleep...Does anyone have those "Hello, My name is:" stickers? If not, I'm gonna go buy some. There's no way I can remember who's who, lol. :0D
a
I have stickers for name tags and a template to use so they will say dave's garden on them also.
Welcome Darkmoondreamer. I have a passion vine for you. Many of us attending are new to DG and will be our first RU.
can ya all make sure you post on the head count thread for me so I can make sure to have a count so I have enough name tags made up Please...and include any family or friends coming along
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/856350/
Thanks!!!
Oh Thanks 6841! I've been wanting another passion vine for a long time. I used to have 3, a red one and two reverse versions of purple and lavender. I didn't think those things EVER died, but when I moved 2 years ago I had to leave the plants and they sure did die, without care. Be sure and look on my have list and tell me what you'd like in return. Looking forward to meeting you!
darkmoondreamer, any homemade jam would be a real treat.
Gotcha down 6841!
I'm posting this in several places. I have a dear friend (daughters MIL) that needs a lift. She is an avid gardener, and from Germany. I have invited her to come with me if she will, and she will probably bring some samples from her garden. I wanted to ask that maybe a few of you trade with her or gift with something little or extra you might have so that she will feel welcome and not left out. She doesn't have lists or anything prepared because it will probably be a one time visit if she comes. Her name is Regina. I know if she comes everyone will welcome her. Thanks all!
Bring her on down....we always give our extras to others...even those without.
"eyes"
Oh by all means Karen bring her I'm sure there will be extra to share no one has ever been turned away that I know of *S*
darkmoon i would be happy to share. can you ask her if there is a particular kind of plant that she really likes?
