more later... I have to give Lilly a shower and shave her hair... the heat really bothers her...

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I can't believe how nice the foliage looks, Kassia. Every time I try to grow roses they always get black spot, or some other disease.

My mother had a huge, huge Hansa. it was the belle of the block. We even had a few brides come and pick some. I'm so glad you got that one. The smell is heavenly.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Polly, it's a good year so far... I have some black spot but no alarm yet... it's the same roses from last year... rugosas are great... they really survive tons of pests!
and you are right... they smell so good... finally my garden smells good!!!!so cool!

How come all the flowers are " she's " ?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

There are plenty of male names too.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't know... I just think all the flowers are a she... too feminine for a man... oh well, now I am being a sexist.... I don't know...

oh You guys, today is the day... my garden is spectacular today (at least for me) oh the westerland roses are open... I wanted to cry when I saw them this morning... I honestly gasped... it took me a while to see it all... no question its really a great rose... too bad the bush behind her was trimmed too short and has tons of brown... darn it! but nevertheless is really something... I am so glad I don't have to go to work today.. well I am waiting for my very special guest to arrive... oh you guys are going to have a good surprise...anyway... I will post pictures later... now, I have to go out in the heat and take more pictures....

Kassia, do you spray anything on all your roses for bugs?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh Flowerjen, I spray them with an organic Pyola - got from gardens alive... only if the temperature is less than 80... aphids I clean all the buds with water - just spray them away... some of the roses gets tons of aphids... so far the only thing I had is the green horrible little worm like thing... forgot the name... but it eats the leaves and they look like lace... this past week I have washed and killed several....

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Pure Poetry....loooove this rose.... I am getting at least another 2....
