Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great shots, Shelly. Which maple is that? I love the rhodie too.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

victor that is carnival

i got one this year from forest farm - although I had problems planting it when i took mine out of the small pot - the roots were stuck in the holes and got a little tug - fingers crossed and keeping it watered.

Beautiful stuff!
This weekend is the 'big planting weekend', for us. Does anyone else have similar plans?

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

Beautiful shots everyone. Love the rhodies, Redchic. Here's more Columbine. McKana's giant.

This cropped up in my yard this year. I wasn't sure what it was, foliage reminded me of Crocus. Just ID'ed as Star of Bethlehem. Prettty little thing, too bad it's poisonous and invasive. Guess I'll have to dig them out before they take over.

The McKana's Giant are gorgeous. How long have you had them in your garden? We just 'discovered' them this year at a nursery nearby and put in three of the plants, bloom unseen. Do they get very tall?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Aren't the carnival's great plants Bill?!! I actually ment to put the name of it in the caption, but I guess that I was too tired and spaced it ou!! I'm glad that you knew.I've had it for about 6 months now and I still haven't decided where I'm going to put it ! :-p

I agree Candyce, I'm going to see if I can get the get the kids, that someone wanted to let loose in the yard to cut bouqets, to help me with some yard work. I'm not sure how that will pan out though!!!

I really like the miss piggy poppy Dyan. She's cute!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

redchic yours looks just like the magazine. beautiful. mine needs to survive first and it is small. i've stopped ordering small, for now on it's 3 ft min. Although as i remember carnival was pretty expensive.

And victor when you search for it - it is in the european headge maple family.

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

Candyce, I picked up the McKana's Giant on the discount table in April at a local nursery. Same thing, bloom unseen. It's doing so well here that I've added more this week. This plant is about 2 feet tall.

Very nice, Dyane. Now you need a Kermit! Here is 'Crystal Fountain' clematis starting to open.

nice pics Victor - I only have one clem starting to flower so far.

South Hamilton, MA

Back to ivy, Boston ivy was on our brick house in WI for over 30 yrs. Just had to keep it off window screens & shutters. Buyer when house was sold was told to get it off, bank not knowing the difference between Boston & english. My mother went to school in New eng. where it grows on old brick for yrs so brought it back to her house. Boston turns red in the fall--the bees like it so as a kid I had to get used to the side of the house humming, but was never bothered by them.

Victor - that's a very unusual shot of your clem buds! Very interesting!

I don't have many spring blooms at the moment, but here is my red bleeding heart and the hostas beginning to fill out....

Louise, looks so contained. We need a machete to get through the garden already. I'm loving everyone's perfectly manicured beds. Will never happen here unless hell or the South freezes over!

Wha, don't know if you're watching this thread, but maybe in my next life I can have a garden like yours. In the meantime...it is what it is.

laurel

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Laurel - LOL - that's only because the weeds haven't started to come up between the bricks yet. Give it time.......LOL

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

DonnieBrook.... It might not be blooms, but you have many picture worthy plants!

I'm right there with you in machete season Laurel and it's only going to get worse!! The weather has made it such a pain to get outside, usually this time of year I'm still ahead of the game!

Victor you have a way of showing clematis from an entirely different perspective!

Bill... I forgot to mention that ...Yep, the Big foot sightings in this area happen by the hundreds or maybe thousands every year! You can only imagine those trees with that long, stringy, grandfather moss in some areas, light always dull under the canopy,.... who knows what they see! But, I've never seen one though. However even in my own yard, i've seen many a bear and elk. hmmm.... I suppose there's not a connection there :-p I agree about the little acer campestre 'carnivals' and them being small. Most of the time I have really good luck with really small plants, however I think that's the exception. I've seen many good gardners not do so well with it and I have no idea why. I've had it for a year and a half now (a year at work and 6 months at home now )and it's still in a pot, just waiting for the right day and perfect spot. I think i've found the spot and now i'm just judging on how much older to let it get before transplanting.

Louise ~

White vinegar poured between the bricks will help keep the weed invasion at bay. I agree. That photo looks awesome.

I used to use a paint roller with a thick knap and an extension handle to roll on either Clorox or Vinegar or Roundup.
Does a good job and no spatters and no bending.

Ohhhh!!! Great tip!
