Spring Blooms - Part 10
Victor what a good looking Witch!
I think I am in serious danger of becoming addicted to irises... my garden looks so much nicer with irises... oh I love them! first time I planted was last fall... such gorgeous flowers!!!!
So do I. Just wish the blooms lasted longer.
Very nice Dyane. Perennial poppy, I assume. I have not had success with them. Jo Anne, those are photos from last year?
Those are from their current catalogue. I just couldn't send pics of fans and bulbs.I am filled with hope and expectation like everyone else who looks at the earth end of the plant, there's so much ahead of me.
My whole dealing with B&D Lilies was such a disaster and I ranted to GWD ,but recanted today when the box came.
Well my approach with companies is to give them a chance first. If they don't do the right thing, then I will give a negative rating. And I generally try not to give a rating until I have had two or three dealings with them. An exception would be a horrible first-time experience.
Looks great. And don't the stems stay bright green after flowering? I need to get one. ColorChoice had a nice new one this year.
The Genista has a nice gray green foliage. Looks like it should be nice even when not in bloom.
Looks like some nice black soil there. Composted manure?
It was their second chance and no way to call and talk to a real person ,just a phone machine, really frustrating.I was left hanging from October until now with no answer to my snail mail in Octoberuntil to day they inclosed my letter and one of theirs w/ explanation of what they sent and best of all an apology which is ace in my book.
It was partly my mistake an error with the name of the town on the order but the zipcode was right, house number and street too.
That's all water over the dam now.
True gardener you are, Victor. Complimenting my soil! I had a damaged tree removed last year and created a new flower bed in its place. I had new topsoil delivered and I made a mounded bed. This spring I've been adding my own compost to the bed and to each new planting. The plants seem to be thriving.
Kassia "I think I am in serious danger of becoming addicted to irises..."
Uh, oh - first roses, now irises!!!!
I have to admit I did the same thing....Daylilies, lilies, then iris's.
Dyane - Genista is a new one to me.....really gorgeous! How long is it in flower and do you know what zone it is hardy to? I'm wondering if it could take our zone 5 winters.
Sad news...I think I lost both of my hardy hibiscus, Red Luna and White Luna. There are no signs yet of any new growth. Sniff. They were among my 60 birthday garden plants from my husband and son. I did take a seed pod to Florida and had a lovely F2 White Luna plant just beginning to bloom when we had to leave. My neighbor loved it, so I gave it to her. Hopefully I have another seed pod, but I'm wondering if any of you have had luck with hardy hibiscus in zone 5 gardens?
Louise, one of my hibiscus is just starting to show new growth, and none on the newer one yet, don't give up yet!
They are always late in waking up.
Louise, I have 3 hibiscus, and I am 6b or 7a, depending on who you ask. Mine are just now showing, maybe about 6 inches. They are usually the last to show their faces.
Louise, I agree, mine are slow to wake up too. If they are showing, I haven't noticed and I was deadheading narcissus and tulips where they are planted today. I will check in the morning.
DyanesGarden, loved seeing Genista lydia in bloom, as I bought one on impulse too about a month ago. No blooms yet here. Hope mine is a lovely as yours.
Victor, I am with you with the poppies. I am not so good at them except in the compost heap. I seem to find them there popping up from time to time, but they never come back in the garden. I think that tells me that my garden soil sucks.
I hope it is not so windy tomorrow as I need to transplant some Rosa rugosa. . I also have a 3 yards of dirt being delivered tomorrow that I must deal with immediately. This dirt pile is the penultimate project on my "Victor List". Thus all ticked off except one last spring job of getting an old boat moved to a more secluded spot.
I took pictures today of the garden and some are out of focus because of the wind. Here is the batch of 30. Not all labeled yet, that won't happen until winter or during a week of bad weather. Don't want either any time soon.

Edited, as I posted in the wrong thread and it made no sense. Nothing new for me.

Wow... what a day! So much stuff going on that I'm going to have to do a "split screen" in order to figure out what to say to who!. That's cool.
Jo Ann.... Good luck with wayside. I've seen there rating, but personally I've always had really good luck with their plants even if they were a little small. Have fun with the Conca lilly. Mine was three years old last season and was almost 6 1/2' tall!!! Huge!!!
Onewish, I'm really glad to hear that that azalea wasn't a replacement for the wrong one that bluestone sent the first time! If that was the case I would've wanted to call if you didn't! The other will bloom, maybe another year or two.
glad I'm not along in my plant fetishes Victor (the water/lady's mantle)
Wha, that picture was of the leaves of the Uki at work, much brighter because it gets more sun than mine. but, mine still is one of the brighter plants in the full shade (no direct light at all!) I could post one of the leaves of mine here at home if you were to want to compare.
Love the Poppies Dyan and genista.... that's actually a somewhat hard one to find around here. I agree with the decision to remove the grass 100% !!!
