Great flowers everyone!
I found buds on H. kanyakumariana that completely blew me away because it hasn't grown at all. Doesn't growth usually come before flowers? I got the cutting last summer and while it grew a little bit before the winter, it hasn' grown at all this year yet.
In a picture I took of H. lacunosa Tove last week, I discovered H. heuscheliana had flowers. I never even saw them, I just downloaded the pictures tonight and saw the flowers in the picture. Darn little hiders! You can see them just to the left of the lacunosa flowers.

May flowas Part 2
That is so cool! I have a teeny cutting of kanyakumariana that I just received last week from a DG friend! I am so afraid I won't be able to keep it alive! I can't remember but I think she said that one is a good terrarium plant? I thought about putting it in my terrarium for awhile. That's cool that you got blooms on such a small plant!
This one's just puzzling me. It's H. fraterna, and you can see that half of the buds in this umbel are far larger than the other half. The first time this one bloomed the flowers were the same size all the way through and opened together. It doesn't look like that will happen this time. Has anyone seen this before?
Christine
Very interesting. Wonder what would stunt the growth of some but not all? I will be curious to hear about that. I will also be curious to see the photo's of that bloom when it opens.
Thanks Lin. I agree, that's strange, but I like it!!
I've also got buds on H finlaysonii, for the second time, but the first time they blasted. Also have buds on H. bella, H. alba Hybrid and H pusilla for the first time, and although I haven't looked yet, I'm sure that sneaky little heuscheliana's got buds or flowers on her someplace.
I'm holding my breath for all of these little buds because we're moving in a few days, and all that jostling is bound to be very upsetting for some of them. H compacta is totally sulking on me so far this year because I had to move it from one room to another last fall.
I hope everyone's having a wonderful weekend.
Isn't this just a happy colour for a hibiscus?
Christine
Nice Hoya flowers Christine.
Where on earth did you find that beautiful Hibiscus up here?
Yep Julia, the hoyas are still producing:-). I reallly like the color on your H. cinnamomifolia, I wish mine would hurry and bloom. Lin, I'm attaching a picture of a leaf from my reversed kerrii. The whitish color is in the middle instead of the outside. I don't know what the sp. Chicken Farm's flowa is going to look like, this is the first time it's bloomed. Everyone's flowas are just awesome!!
Blessings,
Awanda
Awanda: That is one pretty variegation on that reverse kerrii. I Love the looks of that! Thanks for showing me what you meant by the reverse kerrii.
Doug: That is an Awesome Hoya! Gorgeous plant, lovely blooms! Is that a fragrant one?
Doug,
Real nice plant.....I have managed to kill a couple of H.serpens. Thats a tricky one for me to grow.
Doug - I am green with envy - I can't grow that hoya to save my life!! Absolutely stunning plant! Good growing!
Karen
Nice serpens Doug! I have killed more serpens that I can count, but does that stop me from trying? Nope, I have one coming this week and there is one in the greenhouse that seems to be holding on!!
Blessings,
Awanda
Thanks everyone for your compliments. This is one of those relatively few Hoyas that I seem to be able to grow well. I think that it likes me, because of the cool conditions that I can easily provide. Except for the three months of summer, the temperature never gets out of the lower 60s in the room where it lives. I think that I need to concentrate on these cool condition Hoyas, because I'm beginning to realize that most of the other types are a real struggle for me.
Lin, the scent is a very sweet gentle perfume, and is quite lovely especially at night.
Doug
Doug,
Maybe you can try growing H. globulosa. I think its a cool growing hoya and I don't know of anyone who has gotten this hoya to bloom. It has really neat leaves. I have never even seen a picture of one blooming.
Thanks for the tip. I will grow mine in the house where its cooler. Here in Florida growing the cool hoyas can be a challenge. Reminds me I need to bring the hypolasia in before it croaks.
ric
All the pictures are beautiful as usual!! That kanyakumariana's is one of the cutest thing I've seen!! Doug your serpens is gorgeous, so full and those fuzzy flowers!!! The colors in H. cinnamomifolia and the H. lobbi are both just stunning! Lin your multiflora looks good after a shower! ^_^
My cv Joy opened yesterday .... there are five more blooms at various stages on this plant!
~Brenda
This is the second time in two months that my H. Greenie bloom has only made it to this point. They look ready to burst open but then they never do, they just stay at this point until they drop.
I picked one and opened it and there is a perfectly formed flower with pretty colors after you force it open. Anyone know why it would do this??
~Brenda
Brenda, That cv Joy is really, really pretty! I love those soft colors!
Oh, that greenie is a nice looking one too ... never heard of that one before, but most of them are new to me.
Thank you Lin! I'm thinking Greenie needs more humidity than I can provide.... it just doesn't look like a happy plant all together and now this weird thing with the buds not opening...... The thicker leaved hoyas do much better for me, so far, than any of the thin leaved ones have.
~Brenda
Wow, Brenda- love those color - my favorite combination. I lost that one due to overwatering :( Maybe I'll order another.
And Doug, amazing serpens. I had a nicely-blooming pot, but again, overwatered in my zeal for not letting the buds blast, and the roots rotted. I'm just starting to get results with a little vine I saved, by misting frequently instead of watering and planting in a bulb pot....
Julia
I'm thinking Greenie, is actually Greenii....
Blessings,
Awanda
Your right Awanda, it is Greenii!! LOL Do you know why it will get to this stage in the blooms and then they never finish opening?? They look like fruit tarts ready to burst but then they fade away and drop off.
This is a shot from 5 days after that first picture of Greenii with them looking almost just the same.....
~Brenda
Well done, Awanda. I like the H. finlaysonii types more and more as time goes by. I think I held it against them that the flowers didn't last very long, but they are pretty, and the leaves are usually so great.
What are the leaves of H. sp. "chicken farm" like?
Very nice Awanda! I'm so glad the bloom opened before you left for your granddaughter's graduation and your cruise vacation.
Awanda, pretty leaves. Tell the truth though- you bought this one because it was called H. sp. "chicken farm".... I'll bet.
Actually I got it in a trade, but yes the name did intrigue me:-).
Blessings,
Awanda
pretty flower Ric. I love the green color, looks almost like a sherbert sundae. I have a small cutting of pottsii. I can't wait for it to bloom. Sure hope it looks something like yours.
