DAILY PICS VOL. 109

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

The pair of Golden-crowned Sparrows spent most of the day searching for tidbits in my yard. They were very easily spooked by the slightest movement.

Awww, thanks Nanny!

I'm doing pretty good considering! I still can't believe that I now have a titanium plate in my neck!!!

Took some pictures yesterday but they were all cruddy because of low light. I'll have to try and get some more today in the sun.

New bird, a Scarlet Tanager. :-) He wouldn't let us get too close. My dh took these pictures.

Yes, but there's no "d" in the birds name. This duck is also a Wigeon. Your picture is of a Eurasian Wigeon. This is an American Wigeon. Both species are present here in Alaska.

Gary

I was still typing when you sent you post Resin.

Ditto on the sleepy one. Wonderful!

Every photo on this thread is just great as usual!

I went to Brazos Bend State Park yesterday and took tons of bird photos, so I did a thread just for them. Didn't want to fill this one up! If you want to see, go here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/850043/

Gorgeous wren shots!

Papa Bluebird is standing guard at the feeder while the fledglings eat. Despite being wet (and watching the youngsters eat all the mealworms), he still manages a wing wave to Mama, who has five 1-day old babies in the nestbox.

And to answer the oft-asked question, where do the birds go to get out of the rain. In this case, it's under the peony bush. These fledglings apparently haven't heard about the neighbor's cat. I cringe every time I see them hide in there.

Sorry about the lack of picture quality. It really was raining.

I drove the 50 miles to Portage Glacier today, hoping to photograph the Harlequin Ducks, reported to be in Portage Creek, near the Forest Service's Visitor Center. When I found them, they were on the far side of the stream, and I couldn't get very close.
