Another view of the same Junco.

Interesting Junco - looks to be half-way between Oregon and Slate-colored, but in a slightly different way to the ones shown on p.501 of Sibley

I stopped at a local country park after work yesterday and saw this lovely family.

I do not have a "Sibley's, but in Stokes 1996 ed. page 472, looks like the "Gray-headed" race. To be honest I didn't notice the unusual color until I looked at the Pictures blown up on a 24" computer screen. It just looked like a normal Junco looking, out the kitchen window.

Thanks for the new thread Gary! Great pics and I especially love the Junco..ours have left and I miss them.

Nice goslings K!

Thought I would share a few new birds...the first is a female Common Yellowthroat. I've seen the male a few times but this is the first female. I spotted her in the tree line and of course she was moving all over the place.

The second new bird is a Red-headed Woodpecker! My gosh was I excited to spot him in the backyard "dead tree"! This is a window shot and I sure hope he returns for a better view!

Make that 3 new birds...here is a Great Crested Flycatcher that was ID by Resin and claypa! I spotted him on our brush pile in the field and hope to get a better pic if they stay around. It was such a pretty bird with the yellow chest!!

Hello everyone.
What a duckie start to the new thread Gary. Very nice & a handsome Junco too.
Heatwarming family portrait kniphofia! So sweet. I love that little one looking right at you.
Beautiful twofer threefer dellrose. All are great looking birds and really nice photos.
I have one new one. A small flock of Western Tanagers has discovered the orange halves in the Honey Locust Tree. They have been here for a couple of days. So now I have Orioles, Black-headed Grosbeak, Verdin, Northern Mockingbirds, Thrashers, House Finch, and Western Tanagers eating oranges. It is a very busy tree. Good thing the oranges were 10 for 89 cents. I had one last night and boy was it sweet & juicy. Good crop!

Love that yellowthroat shot up there.

Not the world's best eagle shot, but I did take it out of my truck window without a zoom is how close it was.

OMG! I think that eagle shot is FABULOUS!

I just love the other photos too. Western Tanager -- WOW. See, I just can't stop saying that!

Dellrose, you have such great birds and you photograph them so beautifully. I love seeing your posts.

Hey I'm here Nanny, I'm just lurking as I had Cervical Fusion surgery on Wednesday. I'm recovering at my Mom's and there are so many birds here. She doesn't feed them in the summer though, So i have to catch them when I can. Was hoping for an oriole or indigo bunting sighting.

Later!!!

Oh, my - as usual, I am speechless at the incredible photography and glorious birds.

Al, to get a shot of an eagle from a vehicle window is one thing, but THAT is a great one!!!

I saw two Western Tanagers a week or so ago, but haven't seen them since and they are ignoring my oranges and grape jelly. Darn - I'll keep at it, though and maybe I need to put the feeder somewhere else . . .

Congrats on the Eagle al!

Wonderful; pics guys!!

Coquitlam, BC(Zone 7b)

Great photos! They are colorful and sharp.
bigcityal - I'm impressed that you were able to capture him so well. There is an eagle that flies around here, but he doesn't like the papparazzi, so he never comes close enough for me to take a picture.
dellrose - I've never seen that flycatcher before. He's gorgeous.

These are new birds for me. I'm very excited to see them.

Pileated Woodpecker

He was a complete surprise. I thought it was a big flicker beating hard on my house until he swooped down on the suet feeder.

I think this one is a Brewer's Blackbird. It was just her visiting for a bit, but now she's begun to bring a couple others to feed alongside her.

Congratulations Moogle! Nice pics!

I think this one is a Brewer's Blackbird

Brown-headed Cowbird. The bill is much too thick and stubby for Brewer's Blackbird.

Resin

More than likely it's the heat that is making the birds scarce. 99.6 f when this pair stopped by or they're all nesting, but the bird count is way down.

Great shots everybody. Nice Eagle!!

Thank you, Resin. That makes sense because today I saw one of her friends and was able to take a pic of him.
