SHARE YOUR POT PLANTINGS FOR PORCH AND PATIO

Great patio!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

New arbor is definatly needed.
Is,nt it wonderful to have controle over your own plot?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love the patio!!

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Control yes indeed. They skinned that huge naked Norway Spruce. I helped pay for the job for the light I get in return for no tree. I did not think of the opening up and showing of Nellie B's rear end. Plan B.....build the lovely arbor tall and wide. :)

My vine is in the ground. First year it sleeps, second I am told it creeps and the third year it leaps. Think I can build an arbor in two summers. Mercy.

Do it---Do it---Do it

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

That sleep creep leap thing is for real, Dwaine, as you know!

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

No I did not know that sleep, creep, leap thing. Critter gave me those three words in that order. I likely threw away several good plants in their second year thinking they were not doing well. In fact I'm all but absolutely sure I did that. I'm on blind faith with you and Critter at this moment. :)

This is the third year for some of my clematis, and I cut out part of 2 of them due to wilt a few weeks ago, but one is now in full bloom, and the other has buds ready to pop. The last 2 years I think they wilted and that was it.

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

That was also one of my considerations but because I knew of the wilt that is known to be out there that is seemingly not predictable or controllable. In spite of the wilt they are still popular retail items. Not all plants and not even all in a family type are affected.

Based on what I have recently learned I should have waited at least for the third year. They did not look sick......just sat there and did what you say....nothing first year, a little the second year. That is when I wacked them thinking they were sick. My plants just about held their greenhouse forced bloom and did nothing towards making new growth for the new bloom the first two years.

Hey that is a hoot. Did you model that one or find it in the market place? Now don't tell me your DH modeled for you. :)

heehee!
Picked it up at the Christmas Tree Shop.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That shop is right near my house. I think I'm in trouble.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That store has so many good deals, little money per item, but they add up very quick!

I planted a bunch of Lowe's purchased in bubble pack Caladiums. They have not emerged in six weeks. I have three left I don't think I will plant. Comments??? Begonias from the same source are up and reaching for the sun.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Probably just not warm enough yet.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have had luck with the caladiums from Lowes, although I think it was just luck and the alighment of the stars.
This will be my last season purchasing anything from Big Box stores.Plants factorygrown ,who knowes where are not for me. The losses are too great. Percentages are better with smaller nurseries.
Now I know it's not the gardener that's at fault.
Someone told me VanBourgundien just finds stuff on the factory floor and puts it in bags. I had a Poppy collection from them, I should have known 8 poppies for ten dollars was too goood to be true, only three survived and the rest took 4 years and weren't much to look at.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

For the caladiums, the night temps would need to stay above 50* for a while before they will surface. also, you dont want to give them alot of water (barely moist) until after they start to grow, or they will rot in the ground :o) I planted bulbs (from a wonderful source) about 3 weeks ago here in zone 9 and with our wacky temps lately, I still dont have any popping up, but expect them to poke thru the ground soon :o) hope this helps!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi anjl Here in Z6 we don't get nite temps above 50 until June, this means we force Calads inside for six weeks. I started mine in the living room in late march and set them out mid may, we are having a terribly cold spring but they are holding their own but not looking happy about it.
I have seen some in Brent aBeckys but am reluctant to go through the whole forcing thing again next season.
Pitty cause I love them.
We had a low last night of 37* Really frustrating

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Geese............I shall go dig about the Caladium pots a bit. We have been cold and wet both during this long cold spring. Guess I might just as well plan on replanting those three pots because I was out there early. I just reread my planting instructions. No note there about needing a dry and warm start. Typical! My simple male mentality did it...."see picture in bubble pack grab it and go".

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

lol, check the site from caladiums4less... bill has awesome prices and really good planting directions :o) I just got a shipment of 9o bulbs to add to my earlier collection :o) lol!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I got bulbs from him in the co-op. His instructions call for night temps of 65 before planting.

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

65 degrees at nght.....................We have not had that yet ! Next year if I want them I better figure on indoor and temproary greenhousing of Caladiums.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am going to forego the tropicals, it's just too cold for too long to be able to enjoy the blooms for more than a month.
Is this a Daphnee Lilac?
Or a dwarf variety of some kind.?
