I LOVE Classic Rock!! All those bands you mentioned rule!!!
Today I found TWO ticks on me! Both in my waistband area. One was there all day. It kept itching but I never felt a bump so I didn't know it was a tick. The second one I felt almost right away. I went outside, moved a pot on the deck and got a tick on the opposite side of the other one. GRRRRRR.
Hey, where's Mau hiding? Did we lose her on here?
Stop and visit, talk all you want. Pt 22
No Celia!! Of course we're still friends silly!! I didn't understand how anybody could not love love love David Cook's voice, if they liked Rock 'n Roll anyway. I've never watched American Idol like I did this season (if I remember it's on, I usually watch an audition show or 2) and I can guarantee that I won't be watching it again. I've heard the names and voices, some of the people that win. Thanks to Krista! And they're all Pop singers. I don't like Pop. Never have, never will.
In my life, I've only had 2 attached ticks. I did have another crawling up my leg, but he burned. Our neighbor, in all seriousness when he said it, told me "that my blood was too sweet". Now, she says batting her eyelashes, I know I'm sweet, but my blood being too sweet? Honestly, he loved to kid me, but he always laughed after if I fell for one of his bizarre things. He didn't laugh at this, so that's why I think he said it in all seriousness. I don't know, maybe he got me and I never knew it?? LOL My mom can think about going outside and find a tick on her. Same with poison ivy. Tell her that there's some in the woods and she's got a rash.
What a pretty picture Celia!!
It's been raining here too. Sunny today, but rain coming in again tonight and tomorrow. Possibly on Tues. also. Getting old!
Oh Terry! I was kidding, too. LOL Never had tick. Don't wanna.
Very pretty day out right now. Rain later, thunder. I set a HUGE amount of seeds out this morning. Whatever lives, lives. I had so many sent to me, I wasn't sure what to do with all of them. We have so much rain coming, I thought it would be a good time to do that.
You never had a tick?????? Must be nice!! LOL. Swelling has gone down on my current ones. When they start itching I slather them in alcohol then neosporin. It really helps.
It could be anything unfortuntely. Keep an eye on it.
Hey girls!
Rained like crazy last night. Good thing I'd planted my newest plugs late yesterday afternoon. I dug a hole for one, and about a gazillion ants went scurrying all over the place. Including up my pant leg!! Did the jig trying to get the darned things out! Finally had to stand and just stick my hand up my pant leg and remove the darn things. Squished in my haste more than lived, but that's what they get for going up my pant leg! Course--lol---that's what I get for digging up their home!
I've given our neighbor the bug to garden. Her and her husband have lived there since '72. She's planted a few trees and has some ditch lilies and something called Japanese lanterns and something called lily of the valley? Only problem I'm seeing is she doesn't know anything and she's got her brother doing a lot of it. He's been tilling and creating a lot of new beds and planting a lot of plants he hasn't a clue on what they are. He's planted plants I know are sun loving plants in shade and shade loving plants in sun. We've got wild violets and creeping charlie in our yard, because of their yard. And I'm not into the whole weed 'n feed thang. He thinks if he tills the area, it's going to kill the weeds. It's not. He's only scattering the roots around. It's scary to speak with the brother. He hasn't a clue on what any plant is. His criteria for a plant is if it's pretty. Otherwise it doesn't matter. That area that he tilled? With all the weeds? He planted (sad sad looking plants that have been in that backyard in milk jugs for about 3 weeks) in it yesterday while I was out in our yard. Then today, he was spreading weed 'n feed all over in the bed he'd just planted in. Not a Preen type control that's made to go into perennials beds, but the Scott's brand for turf grass. What'cha gonna do? I sure don't know what to do. If questions are asked to me, I'll sure answer them and he has asked me questions. But it goes in one ear and out the other. It's kind of funny, but then again, seeing what he's planting is scary. OH! He was telling me yesterday how his sister wants butterflies over there and what did I suggest. He said that and and before I could answer, he starts telling me how next he'll be spreading Sevin dust all over. He honestly thinks butterflies are going to come into that yard with pesticide all over the place?
It's been so humid the last couple of days. Today it actually got up to 84º. Who knows what the temp was if the heat index was added in. So far, they aren't doing that yet. Tonight though, we've got a cold front moving in. Tomorrows high is supposed to be around 62º. Quite a difference!
My parents are in AR. Had to go out to their house today to see if a fax had been received. Walked around the yard and saw that a lot of shrubs and trees I planted for them, were not watered last year like they told me they "sort of" had, and now they're dead. Or is it because of the lawn service they have come to do their yard? Fertilizer, weed 'n feed, pesticide, whatever. I've watched the firm that does it. Windy, rainy, they don't care. Broadcast it all over the place. Ever feel blue in the face?? Saw our first Bluebird on their land. Was the Bluebird house I gave my dad for Christmas anywhere in site? Nope. He never put it up. I really should stop talking to people who ask my opinion on anything.
Celia, I've always loved Foxgloves. You're lucky you've never had any ticks! I think you're my first person to ever say that.
Amanda, hope your itch is almost gone from your friend the tick! Ever had chiggers?? Now those are SO not fun!!
Chiggers, moqsitos, you name it, have had them.
I would be screaming if I had your neighbor.
I think that's what she just did! LOL
Good morning, girls.
Had a good day yesterday, even though it rained. I did have some bad news, though. My second best friend (hubby being 1st), is not coming to visit until July. She was supposed to be here next Wed., but her plans have been changed. I'm sad now. BUT...she offered me a job in Modesto, CA. LOL I might think about taking her up on it but Darrell would need a job, too. ☺
That was me screaming Celia? If yes is your answer, LOL right back at ya!! I had to re-write that I-don't-know-how-many-times!!! I reeeeeeeeaaaaallllllllly toned it down for you! You guys have no idea---well maybe a little☺ I had that nasty Ailanthus (tree of heaven) in the backyard and even had a purple loosestrife!! I HATE invasive plants!! Not pesky aggressive ones that drive one batty, but those nasty nasty invasive things. I removed it all from this yard, I've worked for years out at my parents, in the timber, trying to clear out the invasive stuff growing in there and now this guy comes along and can't even crack a book or search what he's planting on the internet? I mean, come on!! Now if that stuff creeps over here and beyond? I'm going to literally knock his block off. Well I suppose not literally, since he doesn't have a block to knock off☺ Imagine if you will. You're in a neighbors yard looking at plants and you ask, "what's that?" and they look at you with a blank look on their face and they JUST planted the plant! They BOUGHT the plant! Or better yet, how 'bout asking him about the plants he brought from his OWN yard and he still has that same blank look on his face? No common name, no nothing. "Blooms purple" or "blooms white"---??? OOOKAY!!! He doesn't care and doesn't care to care. How can he garden? How? Should I bring him a little tartarian honeysuckle bush from my parents timber or a multi-flora rose? They bloom really really pretty!! grrrr....☺ Really. Still. Watcha gonna do? I can't write anymore because what I want to say I can't say on here and I won't say it even though I really want to say it I won't say it I won't say it I won't I won't I won't ☺☺☺ You know what my problem is? I know what my problem is. I think too much. I need to not think. So I'm going to my happy place. Ahh...that's better.
Say, how 'bout them Cubbies???
ROTFLOL Oh, Terry, that was a great story!!! I can't stop laughing! He needs a good kick in the rear-end! DON'T give him those flowers or they'll be coming into your yard, too! LOL
Too funny...There's the other end of the spectrum. I have neighbor who WILL NOT share info. Or seeds. Or cuttings. He WILL share inflectives and bad cussing!
Hey,
Thought to pop in and say Hi!
hehahee, Terry what a funny story! Think about you all the time....Not that far from eachother. I am thinking hmmm,(train?)
anyway...HELLO!!!
Every6one sounds wonderfully busy. so cool.
LOL Terry. Speaking of honeysuckle, I love the plant but that *invasive* bush I don't even though it smells soooo good. I found some at the end of my road today. First thought I had was what can I put on there to kill it. lol.
Busy here too. Had my radiator flushed out and got my truck back today. It was apparently really nasty in there even though we just did all that in Oct. But now it's nice and clean in there and runs great.
From there I had to run straight to my riding lesson. Was a bit late since I got behind someone who couldn't figure out if they wanted to go 45 mph or 60 mph. Grrrr.....
Terry, go kick that guy's butt!! I'll cheer you on! :~p
You know, sometimes I have to find the humor in situations. And most times I find humor in the most bizarre way!
Seedtosser, I'm sorry, I'm drawing a blank on your name! Judy? We've got a depot here in town. Then again, we sure don't have any cool nurseries to go to. Oh wait. Let me rephrase that. That "I" think are cool! We do have Hornbaker Gardens and if you ever listen to Kathy and Judy in the AM on WGN, you hear Kathy raving all the time about going out to Hornbaker's. It IS nice, but for me, they don't carry "my" kind of plants, which everybody knows are native/indigenous plants. Unless of course, we speak of viburnums. Then I love them (almost) all!!
Celia, I won't give him those plants. It's not that it would be just me that would have them popping up. They'd be popping up as far as the birds fly and that's pretty darn far!
Ha! This is too funny. I was thinking on what I wanted to say and the phone rang. It was my dad. I've been waiting for him to call me to explain a septic tank to me. Not what it's for, I know that--lol---but rather what it's made of. We had one in TN. but you know, sometimes ignorance is blissful. Not really, but you know. So anyway, my dads is wanting me to do "my thing" at his house. With all my indigenous prairie plants in 3 different areas, one spot right over the septic. Hmm...what is a septic tank made of? I don't know, so I called for my dad, but he was napping so okay, I called over to my most favorite (native) nursery in the whole world. The dad isn't in, but I speak to the son. I'm telling him my plans and he tells me that I'm wrong. I don't know if I'm wrong or not, I thought my thinking on what a septic was, was correct, but o.k. I can be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time! He's telling me a septic is only tiles and gravel and I thought that's what those fields were or whatever they're called. I thought the septic would be something made of concrete or perhaps metal. You know, I'm thinking of all the gas storage tanks I've seen put in or taken up. What do I know though, right? Well, I WAS right! Don't you love it...LOL It is the field that's gravel and tile if that's how your system is set up, but my parents isn't set up that way. The actual septic can be either metal, as it was at the other house they had in AR, or CONCRETE like the one they have!! I was right, I was right!!
Jeepers! 122.39 minutes later, here I am again. My best friend called and we can talk and talk and have a ton more to say but she needs a shower, I need a shower and I've done lost my train of thought on what the heck I was even going to say here!! I can't believe I talked to her and missed 8 innings of the Cubs. Drats.
Well, maybe tomorrow I'll remember what the heck I was going to say hours ago and who knows if anybody has posted since I started this post!! Long winded and ditsy? Who called?? Where am I? Who am I?☺☺☺
pepper, lol, figures you'd be the one to post while I was typing then talking then typing, then talking, then typing to finish once again☺
I don't know if you can get some or not or even if you can cut the honeysuckle bush down. Tordon RTU. Cut the bush down and immediately spray the stumps with the Tordon RTU. You don't need a lot of it. A little goes a long way and you don't need to spray till run-off like a lot of them say to do.
Bottom of the 9th and the Cubs are down 1. grrrr.....
I can always come here and find a laugh!!! LOL Thanks, Girls!
MORE plants at Home Depots. Can't seem to leave there without them anymore.
Thanks terry. It's not on my land so I have to be careful. lol. Sneak around in the middle of the night. Oh wait!! I can't do that cause every single dog here on my road will start barking then surround me. Been there, done that, don't care to repeat the experience.
It's at the end of your road now pepper? Give it a minute and it'll be at your place too. I'm always amazed at how fast those things produce! At my parents, they aren't even bushes anymore. They've grown taller than what any report says they will! They're under-story, so they're reaching for the sun to find the light and so they grow T A L L. And they've already been positively ID'd, so I know exactly what they are. I want to sneak around in the middle of the night at the neighbors, but, well, I've never been in jail and I don't really want to go and find out. I have heard that the food is mighty tasty, but it's those orange jumpsuits. Then again, orange does look pretty good on me and it appears we aren't going to AR this year, so maybe that could be my own vacation☺
Who talks to plants, things, people, animals, bugs, etc? I think you all have probably figured out I'll talk to the wind if I feel like it! Last night I got off here and turned my attention to the Cubs and I let them have it. And guess what my boys did? They came back in the bottom of the 9th and tied it. So we went to the 10th and they held off the Dodgers in the top of the inning, then it was the bottom and their turn. They did it! Soriano hit that ball where he needed to and in came in Fontenot to win it! They swept the series! Woohooo!!!!
That's all they needed, girl! Your FULL attention!!!
I talk to my plants.
You know, it was really funny the other day. Soriano was brought in as this power hitter. It's like a home run or nothing with him. What's wrong with at least just hitting a base hit? Or a double? Then the poor baby strained his right cafe muscle and even though he was a 100%, he barely ran, he wouldn't jump, grrr. So, I've taken to telling him what I think of him when he comes up to bat and I'm not very nice..lol. Sooo, the other day, he comes up, my hubby is here and I start in on poor Soriano and guess what the boy did after I told him what I thought of him when he came up at that bat? He hits a home run. Next time he came up, I didn't say anything and he was swinging blindly at the ball. dummy. My hubby says, "aren't you going to say anything?" So I did and that time he got a single and got on base..lol. I'm nuts and everybody knows it! LOL
Now. Do you think if I go outside and start yelling at the darn fleas in the yard that they'll go away and leave my poor Zoey alone?? She's been scratching, clawing in her crate in the wee hours of the morning the last few days/mornings, driving me batty. I FINALLY got the poor thing in the sink for a bath. It's only been a couple weeks since her last bath, but we've had a lot of rain and I thought maybe all that rain was doing something. Nope. Fleas!! My gosh you should of seen them on her!! Once she was dry, I put that K9 Advantix on her. She's only allowed in the fenced back yard, we barely have any grass, so what the heck is with the fleas?? I won't use pesticide out there because last yr. I was successful in having Monarch and Black Swallowtail caterpillars. I'm not going to mess with any of that stuff!!
Ohohoh! The furniture we'd ordered from Oak Express is in. 2 file cabinets (oak of course) that won't be used as file cabinets, but because of this old house and the lack of storage, they'll both hold sheets with t.v.'s on top. The other will go into the bathroom since Tony never would help me make what I wanted and this is right on target with what I "saw" in my head. Except it has glass doors, but that's o.k. because the other smaller cabinet has a glass door on it too. Rain tomorrow, so we're not going to pick it up till Sat. BUT, I never did find a leather couch that looked like I see in my poor head and sits comfortably. There's an ad in the paper about a furniture place a couple towns over, so we're going to go look tomorrow.
I know what I wanted to say. I talked to my dad last night. They're in AR, if I haven't said that yet. Anyway, in 31 YEARS, the lake is higher than it's ever been!! The road to our dock is under water. And it's still rising! You know what's funny about being a responsible adult now? Remember when your parents had a million questions before you went out for the evening? Where you going? With who? When will you get there? How many people? When will you be home? ETC. ETC. Now? I've been trying to get a hold of them all day and they're nowhere to be found!! They still yell at me when they can't find me!!! Parents.☺
Well, I need to go hop in the shower because the Cubs are on tonight! First pitch at 7:05pm!! Later~~~
The lakes down there are so high because of all the rain from up your way is draining down that way and the lakes don't stand a chance of receding til it stays dry in the midwest for at least a month or more. Since there is still gonna be more rain the lakes are still gonna rise and rise. lol
Oh sure! Always have to blame the northerners for all your misfortunes! LOL And boy do we have rain coming!! Have you seen the maps lately? They're going on and on right now on The Weather Channel about all this severe stuff coming this way.
Oh boy, TELL me about rain! We've had more this spring than the last several years. Our lakes have been so low in places that they've found stuff in them they thought would NEVER be found. Like sunken boats and things.
It was a good day today. I watched Sweeney Todd, talked to some pals, played with the cats, generally relaxed, Darrell came home and we went to Costco for prescriptions, fruit, dinner. Beef Brisket, Mmm... Then we watched 3 hours of LOST. WOW!!! What a season closer it was!
Shhh!!! I haven't seen 'Lost' yet! It was TiVo'd while I watched the Cubs WIN!! What a great game!
According to The Weather Channel again this morning, it should be raining here, but it's not! What the heck is up with that? The radar shows the rain splitting north and south, just as it gets almost to us! With the exception of 1 cell. Forecast looks the same, with the exception of raising the % for rain today and tonight.
Dang it! Don't you hate it when The Weather Channel starts talking about your county and your town in particular? I'm off of here for the time being~~~later~~~
Good morning, everyone!
Terry, you are going to love LOST. And I do hate it when the WC starts talking about my town/county! Makes me wonder what's in store.
Off to work in a couple of hours. I need to get outside and get some things done. I also need to get the succulents in the pot.
Not who i thought would be in the coffin for sure!
Oh, those are cool.
I need to get some sleep. Been up since yesterday...
Hope you got some sleep.
Well, we had a storm a few hours ago. Heavy rain and some pea sized hail. Lots of thunder and lightning too. In fact lightning struck close to my neighbor's place but we couldn't catch how close. No damage as far as we can see but it sure shook the house.
Hello everyone! I'm just gonna jump in here :)
All of these storms are scaring the pee out of me! I'm getting a storm shelter put in, hopefully in a week or so. Everyone here was laughing when we first moved into our house about 8 months ago, "Ah this area has never been hit by a tornado, they don't happen in the mountains, you don't need a shelter." Since one did hit this area April 2nd, I think it was, my neighbors told me if I built one big enough for them, they would pay me half the cost!
LOL That'll teach 'em!
Welcome, Crissy! We're all insane here so join in the fun...Tornadoes are no fun. Been in one and I don't wanna do it again.
I got our plane tickets purchased today for our trip to Oregon next month. I can't wait to go. I paid off my truck today and boy, is THAT a relief! The roses in front have gone insane, too, this year. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and prune them.
FINALLY got a little sleep last night. I hope I get some more tonight.
Love your roses!!!
I had a little fun last night. I have been keeping my drink near my computer because of ants coming thru my window and into my tea in front of that. Well I finally knocked it over last night and ruined my keyboard. So I went and got another one today and went wireless. Came with wireless mouse too so I got a good deal. Had a little bit of trouble getting it running but finally figured out how to do it. lol. It took several hours to figure it out but at least I finally did it. :~)
Welcome to our crazy thread Crissy!!!
Here's one of my colorful pots.
Thanks! I'm nutso too! Yay! Here is my flower bed. I had a bunch more seeds in it but right after we planted it Poured, I mean flat out poured for a few hours, so most of them are now in the lawn LOL I went to Lowes today before another storm to look at something to put in the front of the bed but couldn't find anything. If anyone has any suggestions I'm very open. But the blooms are not bad for a rookie...
Missouri and Utah have been getting a lot of bad weather too. I feel for all of you up there.
I hope you got a good deal on those plane tickets, although it seems to be that they're charging a charge here and a charge there, I'm going to California for a few days on Labor Day weekend, I hope United doesn't have that going on when I fly out.
I've been on a wireless keyboard for awhile, I love it. The bad thing is my nails have rubbed off the e,r,a,d,o,c,and n. My husband, who knew how to type a year ago, got on the computer the other day and couldn't figure out what letters were what LOL
My sunflowers took a beating today, after the storm I went out and they were all laying on their sides, uprooted. They're being held up by rocks LOL I went out a few minutes ago and they're starting to stand back up on their own agin.
Put straw down to hold the seeds. Netting also works.
We have been hammered all year long but around Springfield and Joplin in southern MO they have been hit the worst. They still haven't been able to finish cleaning up after the first ice storm this past winter.
