Black-headed Grosbeak, I believe - first sighting this year.

I've been over-run by Mockingbirds this year and they are slight stinkers about sharing

Here is a Brown-headed Cowbird, I didn't realize they had the white pattern on their wings.

I think the Grosbeak picture turned out nicely, angele! Mine don't usually turn out very sharp. I think it's because it's a digital camera and I have to zoom in a lot.

Here is a pic of a little fledgling House Finch.

I'm not as excited about the house sparrow family in my winter roosting box as I was about the baby robins in a nest high up in one of our tall spruce trees, but something last week happened to that robin nest. On Thursday the mama was regularly feeding her babies (not even close to fledging) and by Friday there was no more visible activity. I don't know if something happened to the parent bird(s) or just the babies, but whatever occurred, that was the end of this year's birdwatching pleasure of that particular nest.

In winter I rarely see birds enter our multi-perched roosting box that we built (specifically for chickadees) and attached to the garden shed. Over recent springs and summers sparrows had gone wild raising many families in a birdhouse next door and chowing down at my feeders until the neighbors (who show no interest in birds) finally took down the by then dilapidated birdhouse. I imagine some of those birds are now using the bottom floor of our condo-like structure for their own families.

You can try to discourage them...

Great pics!
The Brewer's Sparrow is so cute!

I have stockpiled my pics because I have been busy lately and haven't gotten much leisurely on-line time.

I heard a strange bickering noise in the yard. There were 3 Northern Flickers bickering. or... 2 bickering over 1.

This is the one that lost the girl.

another of the same Flicker. And I have seen him since feeding on the ground.

What do they like to eat? I'd love to keep him around.

Catbird singing it's heart out. We have these in our yard too! They crack us up with their R2-D2 sounds and the meow in between.

I put a whole peanut in the shell down because there were Blue Jays around.

BF caught this Tufted Titmouse making off with a dinner that is larger than his head.

Be still my heart - that is marvelous!!!

Thanks Janet. Most of the pics were taken (by BF) at my local Audubon. I'm a terrible photographer.

I forgot to mention that the Hummer's have made it up my way. My Brother spotted one, then I saw one at the sanctuary's "backyard habitat."

I found a mini hummingbird feeder at Wal*Mart. The feeder is mini, it's not for smaller than usual hummingbirds. :) When I get it out in the yard I will post a pic.

How cool is that to have them landing on your hands!

Danvers, MA

Very!

I have been feeding Chickadee's at the same place since I was about 10 years old and I still get excited every time. I love putting a handful of seed into a little kids hand and letting them feel it for the first time. It get's them hooked!

That's the way I got BF hooked a few years ago.

Flickers like ants--they look for them in the middle of the lawn instead of places where I want to get rid of the ants.
