Do tree toads count?
We have at least one in the tree out front who serenades us each evening.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Frostfree?
I think there is a difference between a frog and a toad. Else why the distinction? don't know what it is though.
The little frogs in the greenhouse make a horendous noise when they start singing. Once my dog was in there tracking down the noise. He found the tiniest green frog.
How cute that must have been, Gloria.
He was scared of the frog. Sniff, Jump back. slowly approach. sniff.
jump back. slowly stalk that frog. Whew. that little green thing might might my nose!
Cool pic, Sharon!
Very cool frog since it was close to winter. He would go a little higher and Daisy would stand on 2 legs trying to reach him.
Pretty funny, but then it doesn't take much to entertain me.
That's so funny, Sharon! Glad you got a shot.
Bet the frog was laughing the whole time!
Ha, Victor...reminded me of that old poem,
Mr. Brown, Mr. Brown, please take that owl down,
Or you'll be the laughingstock all over town.
And the barber kept on shaving.
Probably too old for you to remember. And I don't have a clue what made me think of that.
I like it!
Great photos, Sharon.
Hi Pirl, thanks. Daisy and the frog were photogenic.
Or is it a toad....Gloria, I don't know the difference either.
is there more to the poem???

there is a lot more to the poem...will see if I can find it.
Here goes..pretty funny...
THE OWL CRITIC"- By Coloman Jonas
"Who stuffed that White Owl in this shop?"
The barber was busy and didn't stop.
"Don't you see Mr. Brown"
Cried the youth with a frown.
"How wrong the whole thing,
How preposterous each wing,
How flattened the head, quite amiss.
In short, what an ignorant wreck 't is".
"I've studied Owls,
and other fowls,
an Owl cannot roost
with its limbs so unloosed,
no Owl in the world
ever had his claws curled,
ever had his head screwed
into that attitude.
He can't do it because
'tis against all bird laws.
Anatomy teaches,
and ornothology preaches".
"Mr. Brown, I'm amazed,
you should be so crazed,
as to put a bird
in that posture absurd!"
"Examine those eyes,
I'm filled with surprise,
Taxidermists should pass,
off on such poor glass;
so unnatural they seem,
they'd make Audubon scream,
do take that bird down,
have him stuffed again Mr. Brown!"
And the barber kept on shaving.
"With some sawdust and bark,
I could stuff in the dark,
an Owl better than that.
I could make an old bat,
look more like an Owl,
than that horrid fowl.
Just then, with a wink and sly lurch,
the Owl very gravely flew from the perch,
regarding his fault finding critic,
with a haughtly glance so analytic,
and then fairly hooted, as if to say:
"Your learning's at fault, this time anyway".,
"Don't waste it again on a live bird I pray".
"I'm an Owl, you're another, Sir Critic, Good day!"
And the barber kept shaving.

On the subject of toads . . .
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/704002/
this is bonitin's thread on her Belgian toads. She says they follow her when she goes in the garden. Little cuties.
i thought the difference was that frogs were amphibious and toads are not.
But i could be wrong...
Then I guess we are both wrong, Amy, because I thought the very same thing.
pretty darn quick
Here's the difference between frog and toad

Cool. Toads are usually big too, I think.

this one says toads live on land and they stink. or they can stink to deter predators.
Sharon - those are the cutest pics of Daisy and the frog! Now, is this the very same Daisy that was hiding under the bed during the lightening storm not too long ago? Or was that you?? LOL
Hi Louise.....Daisy and I are well acquainted with the underside of the bed. Daisy moreso than I. She fits better. So where do you go during lightening storms???
Sharon......for some reason, I've never been afraid of lightening storms. I do at least stay off the phone, since we've had 3 of them zapped here. I just stay wherever I am......and now that I'm grown up, I don't stay outside in it anymore. Not very smart about it all probably.
When I lived in the mountains, I would sit on the front porch and love thunderstorms. If lightning struck, it would be way up on the mountain, not down in the valley.
I have no mountains here.....flatland all over. When lightning strikes, it is really close. So, yep.....I head for cover.
I always loved t-storms!
When I was a kid both sets of Grandparents had camps at seperate lakes w/in 10 miles of each other. Actually it is called a Chain of Lakes and they have Mountains surrounding them. Anyways....when a good storm came up it would ALWAYS seem to bounce off the MTs. and come back through a second time. It blew out a fan less than 2feet from me and set it a fire!!
I don't like thunderstorms!!!!!
If you go to this link, the picture on the top is an actual shot of how the Lakes connect....

Nice photo. Well nothing like that ever happened to me. I can understand how you feel!
Love the Daisy shots Sharon. I think glass may be one of the most frustrating things on earth for cats.
Along with laser pointers.
LOL Amy, you're right on that!
Ohmigosh, Amy!
Laser pointers! I had forgotten playing with our cats when they were younger and getting them all worked up using the laser pointers! What fun that was!!!
I just registered for a bird banding class this fall. I went and watched the banders for a few hours last week. I got to hold a couple of birds. They are studying the effects of development on the birds in the area. The land surrounding the banding station was just made a conservation area.
Looking forward to it.
Cool! Nice thing to do, Deb. Wow, even too many birdhouses!
That's great, Deb. I admire you for taking that kind of initiative.
