Broccoli problems

Last year I direct seeded broccoli into the garden and they came up fine. They grew nice leaves but no heads of broccoli. Do you know why this might be? I don't want this to happen again, so any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You might try the beginner vegetables forum for this one. I don't know much about broccoli (besides that I like eating it! LOL) but if I had to guess, I'd say they were either started too late or got too much nitrogen fertilizer. But that's really just a guess, someone who knows more about growing veggies will undoubtedly have some better ideas.
