We moved into a house thas two sets of astilbe. One is white, and in a very shaded area. The other is pink & is in a mostly sunny area.
They're both hidden on the sides of the house that are least seen, and I'd like to transplant some to the front (southern exposure).
What is best for them?
Astilbe - shade or sun?
I've admired them but not owned them. If you've never tried searching plantfiles it's a great resource to. When I looked them up it seems to say "sun-to part shade" for all the ones I looked at: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/search.php?q=astilbe
They do best with evenly moist, humusy (is this a word?) soil. They can take morning sun, but afternoon sun would be too much for them, in my opinion.
Thanks!
I'll just move a couple of each and see how they do. I'd hate to lose them all.
These are so much fluffier than the ones I've seen online. Almost cotton-candy looking from a distance.
They are wonderful....I have them in total shade and they thrive....partial shade and they thrive....just do not put them in full sun !
kelli......Keep them watered well in sun, keep them watered well in sun, keep them watered well in sun.....any questions?.......:)
Or you'll end up with leaves and plumes that sound like Rice Crispies when you touch them and look like burnt toast from a faulty toaster when you look at them......Have a wonderful day.....and don't forget to water well when they're planted in sun.....:)

PaulFromAL- If I plant astilbe in the sun, should I keep them well watered?
Chris
Chris.....Maybe.......:)
Paul,
From what I'm gathering (and correct me if I'm wrong), I am to keep them watered well in the sun.
And although I like the sound of rice crispies & kinda like slightly burnt toast, that is not the quality desired in an astilbe. Is that also correct? lol
I've decided to transplant a few in a shaded part of the front of our house (southern exp.)
Thanks so much!!!
kelli.....Your grasp of any and all situations is in a word ASTOUNDING.......:)
