I have several different grasses in my yard. I was told to leave some of it through the winter and then cut it down in the spring. It seems to have worked with my Zebra/Porcupine Grass, as well as some Copper grass as well.
It seems like my Black Mondo Grass has no new growth whatsoever. What should be done with this is the spring??
I only planted in fall 2007 so this is new for me. I have never had grasses before.
What to do with Grasses in Spring.
Contrary to its common name, Black Mondo grass isn't a grass, so I'm not sure how it'll react to being cut back (I had some at my old house, but I never did anything to it). Did yours die back? Here I think it stays green all year round but I'm not sure how it behaves in colder climates. You're also near the bottom of its hardiness range, and since you just planted it in the fall there's a possibility it may not have made it through the winter, but I'd give it some time still.
