Weed or perennial?

Woodstock, GA

I am trying to figure out if this is a weed or a perennial of some sort. It is in several locations in my yard but they all seem to have been strategically placed. Any idea what this is?

I can't tell from the picture, but my usual approach when I find something new in my yard is to let it grow and see what happens. I've gotten some gorgeous plants (and one huge tree!) using this method.

I have quite a bit of this growing in my yard too. It looks like tradescantia of some kind. It's a weed, I know. I will try to find a name for it and get back with you.

I agree with vetaflame. Let it grow and see what happens. I leave everything be in my garden except plantain and lawn grass, and last year I was rewarded with asters and wild orchids! You never know what you'll get. I like to think of "weeds" as plants you don't have to pay for, not plants you have to get rid of. And if you don't like the plant, weed or not, you can get rid of it. It is, after all, your garden.

just pulled a weed in my flower bed that was growing for two seasons. I was sure it was a weed this year.

It is called (common name) wandering jew and it will take over the place ...pull it out ...it gives most dogs a terrible rash.It may not be as rampant in cold places.Once in the garden you are raking it up forever.

I agree, Chrissy. I just spent 45 minutes pulling nothing but this and still have a lot to go. It seems to be the most agressive in compacted soil.

Hey, it'll give you something to keep you busy this spring! (Assuming of course that you're not already busy. I just finished school for the semester and I feel like I've been plunged into a realm of nothingness, so I wouldn't mind the extra work for the week)

Good luck!

oh then that is definitely what it is if it is everywhere. Mine is too!
