I live in 9a (9b?) every chart has us zoned differently, I planted cabbage back in Jan as part of my birthday present. It's May now, It's hotter than sin and very humid, and I know they are a cool weather crop, but they are still growing and have a very small head formed in the middle. the package said that I didn't have to tie them up. I'm a little skepticle. Right now all I'm doing is keeping them lightly shaded and watering them and not looking at them so I don't get discouraged. can anyone give me any advice? I Don't know too much about them other than what I have stated.
thanks

Cabbage are not to be tied up. Just keep the cabbage worms off them and you should be ok. They are pretty carefree plants otherwise. Hopefully you have a fairly early maturing cultivar. The long season cultivars do struggle in the heat. As soon as the head is hard to the touch you can cut them. Usually not too long after they begin to show heads
thanks. I thought they were supposed to get big heads like the size of my head! lol well I'll check it when I get home (I'm at work right now) and we'll see how its going. so how big should they be when I cut them?
