More May Booms!!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Where do you get all your ambition gail....I get worn out just reading what you have all been up to :o Everything looks marvelous!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It is a disease , Nancy , that you don't want or need. It is called compulsive-obsessive disorder (LOL). Although I haven't been diagnosed professionally one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to know who is and who is not!

I try to undertake one big project each day and get it done.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

What can one say? Gail, you are just AMAZING my friend!
I WISH I had 1/2 your energy and 1/2 of your "gessie growing ability" :)
Beyond words I tell ya!!!

((((( HUGZ )))))

Kim

(Zone 1)

I wish I had OCD ... maybe I would have a little more energy! Gail, you Amaze me too! You are a wonderful grower, and not just with Gessie's but with everything your green thumbs and fingers touch!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, don't go order those little bitty episcias they send. We have several ladies in our club who grow them plus that lady in Victoria almost gave me all of these you see. She just took 2 foot cuttings of each kind and i started with the stolons on them. Be patient and when I get back I am sure that I can easily find a sack full of stolons to send you.

Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to even try and have a balanced life. I had to make myself sit down at the computer and write my prison friends' letters , but I guess they forgive me as they know by the pictures I send them that flowers are my passion! (LOL)

Everything I do is a 'make yourself do it, Gail' except for plants. I have to make up 100 hygiene zip lock bags for the homeless we feed on June 19th and I will have to make myself start shopping for the products!!! (LOL)

Only plants are easy for me to find time.

(Zone 1)

Gail, you are a lady with one very full life! I really admire you for all that you do ... you are a blessing to so many.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

DG is a blessing to me. I really love you all and I mean it! Just think that I wouldn't have anyone to share my experiences of growing with if you all weren't such good people to everyone on here.

Going back to CNN as there has been a horrible earthquake in China with a magnitude of 7.9 in a mountainous region that they can't even get by road into.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Gail you are absolutely wonderful in all that you do, you are an inspiration to all of us.
mrsbonnie

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Gail, the lives you have touched in so many ways is just SO inspiring!
Take for instance even just the plants for the Mother's Day sale. How many Mother's were there that weren't able to see their children on that special day for one reason or another? You were there with your stunning plants and now they get to wake up and see that beautiful plant and think of what a wonderful Mother's Day they have.
Or the prisoners who don't have family who care or provide "necessities" they need. You take the time to package up the things they require to stay healthy, write to them in their hours of loneliness and give them hope and direction with the word of God.
You will NEVER know all the hearts you have made an impression on and you do it so selflessly and naturally.
You are SO inspirational my friend :)

My dear friends! (LOL)............stop praising me.............I will forget the Glory goes to God. I am just grateful for good health at this point in my life..........look what I found this morning........totally open.........

I can't play with my plants today as I have messed up the septic tank. Have to go get RidX and then wait for it to work. Guess there has been too much plant material going down the kitchen drain lately.

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! The leaves themselves are killer and then that bloom! I want to learn to do better with these!!

~Brenda

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Brenda, I have sent you a dmail as I am learning so much from Jan and mrs.bonnie. I think mrsbonnie likes the small ones and the one posted above is a different kind that Jan grew from seed. I like both sizes.........

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

ooo Pretty! Of course it is - it's pink!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This is not a bloom and I can't even grow Chiritas, so I have given up. I put this Chirita Aiko in a dark bedroom and she seems to like it. She is in a 6" pot. Maybe I shouldn't have had dumping out party of Chiritias the other night. (don't panic, Kim..........I kept the newer ones that are smaller and ones you don't have)

*******edited to say Chirita got spelled wrong

Wow! Gail, that has to be the most beautiful Chirita foliage I've ever seen! So dark green, shiny and healthy! Who says you can't grow em?! Wow!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You didn't see the ones I threw in the garbage can. I forgot to water them in the bath area! (LOL)

I may try and grow them just like I am growing this one..........complete and total benign neglect!

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

gail, i think i would like to go shopping at your house. lol
mrsbonnie

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

LOL,Bonnie you go shopping at Gails, keep her busy for a few minutes and I'll go threw her garbage can.lol

Thats a beautiful sinningia Gail.

good morning everyone, you all get up soooooooo early for me!

Jan, you are the one who grew these from seed and now I have ones you and Bonnie sent me seed from!! (sinningias)

***edited to say I wish you could shop at my house........always grow too many plants to take care of

and Brenda, I am jealous that you kept your P. Ecuador alive and it is blooming. I killed mine real quick!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Well darn,I do grow nice sinningias from seed...:) LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You do!!!!!!!!!!! You and Bonnie are our mentors with sinningias. I can't wait to get home next week so I can start propagating cuttings from my smaller ones.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Wish you were here to get veggies out of the garden. I just got 2 gallons of beans and have to go back for squash and okra.....to take to my daughter's house!

Your killing me Gail! My snow is going fast but your picking full grown veggies already!!

I'll never get my DH out of Idaho, or even out of this elevation ........ so my retirement dream needs to be a heated greenhouse!!! ^_^

Jan I've got some funky starts of Pearcea from putting two pieces in one of those salad bowl terrariums, They have vined all over in there and are long and spindly... Now that I've told you how lovely they are LOL I'll stick them into our trade box with the streps seeds. Your skills will have them looking good in no time!

Here is a beautiful variegated lipstick plant that Rain sent me short cuttings of last fall. I know I should cut it in order till fill out my pot but the colors go down the vine so perfectly I can't bring myself to do it. LOL

Brenda, those leaves are incredibly beautiful. No wonder you don't want to propagate. I have never even seen a variegated lipstick plant!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Hey Dimmer.....I gave your question about a co-op a lot of thought and put some numbers together.....having just bought "wholesale" from Gary's Out of Africa let me tell you how it would boil down......then you decide if you want to give it a whirl.

I wouldn't mind doing it for say half a dozen people if there was that much interest. Gary packs so awesomely that it would just be a matter of slipping plants from one box to another and getting them back to the Post Office ASAP and I think they would be perfectly fine!!

But as far as a major bargain with shipping rates what they are .... well you decide ....... I'm going with the numbers from my last order. 30 streps of which you DO NOT get to pick the names of..... with shipping cost $140.00. Six of these plants would fit easily into the shoebox sized shipping box and would then cost between 6.50 and 7.50 to ship depending on the distance you live from me.

That makes the cost for each strep close to 6.00 each.....thus a box of 6 "surprise" streps would be $36.00

Now if you were to order from Gary yourself and pick the names of the streps you wanted they would cost $6.50 each and then cost $12.00 to ship.......making an order of 6 streps cost $51.00.

So is it worth the gamble of which streps you would get to save $15.00?????

Didn't mean to bore anyone but I did give it a lot of thought just like I said..... And I'd be willing to do it ........ LOL

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Gail you know Rain, she always has the coolest stuff!! I do see some new growth sprouting at the top so hopefully it will fill out that way!

~Brenda

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Rain always has 'good stuff'. Look at this sinningia she sent me and said she had no idea what its' name was. Well, I don't know the name but she is prettier than any sinningias I have bought for sure!

Lin thinks it maybe Martha Lemke

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Another beautiful sinn. Now that it is opening up it really does look like the picture that Lin posted of Martha Lemke!

Off to pack my plant swap box and a few others. It's dark and rainy today so a good day to pack plants!

And because I like to add pictures....is it normal for Kohlerias rhizomes to start growing out of the soil like this. I just clipped the main plant that was dying back and found these "grubs" coming out of the dirt. Maybe the pot is so full of rhizomes they had to start bursting out. ^_^

~Brenda

Thumbnail by bmedel
DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

yup, very normal for grubs to surface for air :P

Some of these chiritas really are such low light plants. I regularly over-light mine.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am beginning to think the reason I always had brown on the edge of the chiritas under light is because it was too much light.

You are brave, Brenda in trying rhizomes. Haven't been very successful trying that yet.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Well Brenda..my order from Daves traveled alot better than yours...I ordered 6 micro mini sinningias and 3 arrived in bloom and 2 with buds...the only one I am disappointed in was the one I wanted the most..(hate when that happens) LOL..carefree regina looks like its dead..I hope it grows back ..I will post a few pics here..LOL..of course I will..lol..

Those are just adorable Nancy!
You are hooked........oh no *lol*
Don't worry, that little Sinn will come back I'm sure.
It's it ALWAYS the way that our favorite is the one that gets trampled in travel, that we over water or is the one that just won't thrive for us for some reason? I find that all the time *lol*

BEAUTIFUL & Congratulations!

Kim

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Now my *Most Bestest Box* that came today !! Kim offered me 2 of her Big Hoyas for postage and after thinking about it 2 seconds I said..YES!! Check out the size of them..They are so gorgeous!! also she sent along a box of her homegrown babies.7 chiritas,Iced pink flamingo strep and x-codonanthus vista..I am jumping for joy..land so touched....what a great plant mommy she is..have you ever seen such happy healthy babies? Kim thank you soo much for letting me adopt your hoyas my friend and sending me a box of your babies to boot..I hope I can grow them as well as you...

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

What are the ones with the variegated leaves??

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

*blushin a little bit here*
Nancy, they will all "relax" a little (and won't look so crumply) in a few days. They look a little discheveled from their trip *lol*
The X-Codonanthus, I would dome a bit longer and just let those roots keep filling the cup. Once it starts putting out new growth, you can easily slide them out "clump style", prepare a 3 inch pot with perlite on the bottom (at least that's what I do) and then fill it 1/2 way, put the "clump" in the center (perlite and all) and then fill around it with soil and woolah, instant plant *lol* You will find that one grows like a weed. If you keep cutting it (and rooting the cuttings of course) it branches out beautifully. Mine is constantly in bloom and I have already taken about 18 cuttings of it *lol*

I'm so happy you liked your box and that it FINALLY got there :) I just know everything will thrive for you :)

Thank YOU!!

Kim

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

lol.Kim..they didn't look crumply a bit to me..thanks for the tip on vista..going to go dome it now..

Makshi..the upper left is Iced pink flamingo strep..the variegation on that has me swooning : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

nancy, you may have to learn to grow streps from leaves. I have Iced Pink Flamingo and several other variegated streps.

I am so sorry that your sinningias are so small. Dave shipped me great big ones (except for 2 or 3 that are still the same itty bitty size.

I think everyone is getting ready for Nationals the last week of May in Tulsa, so they are saving the 'good stuff' for nationals.
