I just bought a japanese maple, is it possible to cut a stem and root it in water?
Roots from stem
It's not as simple as taking a cutting and putting it in a glass of water- I wish it was! While some cultivars can successfully be grown from cuttings, ususally cutting-grown trees do not have vigorous roots and the trees fail to thrive.

Most JM's are propagated by grafting.
