hibiscus

I got a hibiscus bush the other day and no can seem to tell me if it will come back next year--I had another one a couple of yrs. ago and it never came back but with the weather here it could have been a perineal and just didnt come back--should I dig it up for the winter?--will it go dormant this winter?--I have had some tell me that it is an annual and some say its a perineal

It all depends on what hibiscus is it--some of them will be hardy in your area and should come back every year but others are tropical and would die in your zone if they're left outside. Can you post a picture of it?

I took a picture and am having trouble getting to go onto the computer-all the pics I took earlier went on like a breeze--I'll keep trying--it has pink blooms with a little of white in the middle--darker green leaves--about 2 ft tall right now

Pink with white in the middle could be a hardy one or it could be a tropical. Did it come with a tag? If it did, post whatever it had that remotely resembled the name of the plant (common names, anything Latin, etc), if it had something on there besides just Hibiscus then someone can probably tell you based on the rest of the name whether it's hardy or not.

Also, the hardy hibiscus can be pretty slow to get started in the spring so you might have just given up too early on your other one. I've seen some people post that they don't get going again until June.

my sisters mother in law has several hibiscus that come back every yr. and she only lives about 10 miles away so that's why I wondered why mine never came back--its been about 3 yrs. ago that I planted my last one so I havent seen no signs of him since--I plan to mulch it heavily this fall and hope for the best--it did not have a tag on it when I bought it and the lady did not have a clue about it (she kept looking for the tag too!)--sorry--no pics right now--I got a new camera and dont know how to put the pics over to the browse thing yet--it keeps saying that its not it the right format--thanks for ur replies--Amy

Are you sure yours are the same kind as your MIL? She undoubtedly has one of the hardy varieties and yours may or may not have been.

On your pictures--they have to be jpg/jpeg format in order to upload them here, but most cameras I've seen take pics in that format by default. How are you trying to put them here? If you're trying to copy and paste that doesn't work for pictures. You have to save the pics first on your computer somewhere, then to post it here, down below the box where you're posting you'll see a link to browse/choose a file, click that and then navigate to the folder on your computer where you saved your pictures (usually the default is the "My pictures"), and choose the picture you want.

not to be off the subject, but I have been putting my pics on my computer--now my problem is that is says it will only take 60kb and my pics are 61kb--go figure and I dont know how to change it--thanks for ur responses--I am thinking about just digging it up this fall and bringing it in--I sure wish I could show you all a pic.

Where are you trying to put the pictures when it's giving you that message? Uploading them here it can handle files much bigger than that so I'm confused about where you are when you're getting that error message.

"Hardy Hibiscus" usually refers to H. moscheutos and it's hybrids like this one: http://www.cottagefarmsdirect.com/Hibiscus-Luna-Blush-P872C131_product1.aspx The flowers are typically dinner plate size and the leaves are a matte finish, medium green.

H. rosa-sinensis usually have smaller, glossier, darker green leaves and the center part (pistil and stamens) of the flower is longer and more pronounced. The last major Hibiscus group is H. syriacus aka rose-of-sharon but most people are pretty familiar with that one and don't call it "Hardy Hibiscus".

Maybe you could try googling Hibiscus and try to find one that you think is similar to yours. Try to look past the different colors and pay more attantion to flower structure and foliage. If you find something that's close, you can paste the link here.

NATIVE DIE BACH SOMTIMES IN WINTER AND WILL COME BACK EVERY SUMMER. NATIVE HAS A BIGGER SIZE BLOOM. MINE ARE JUST STARTING TO BUD OUT.
