LOL,
Red, blue, green IS much simpler
Tropical garden #10
Rj, Your garden is magnificent.
I do not think that the double rangoon creeper could look any prettier than your first picture.
Your alocasias are looking very good. Most of mine are sun scorched, and I think that I have spider mites.
I just had to repeat how much I love your garden.
poison arrow vine starting to bloom
from Zone 9 in Houston
candela, maybe I need to get a machete to threaten my plants with. I have been watching princess flowerbuds now for a long time. NO blooms yet !
I like to get surprises like you had with your shredded white brug. They are so unusual.
I might have to make another trip to Houston in search of a mussaenda plant. Love them.
ours here are reliable bloomers... could it be because of the colder weather in 8a?
Temp might be the reason. They are rootbound but stingy with the blooms.
I'm new to this forum and my head is about to explode!!! You guys and girls go so fast I can't keep up. I'm trying to start my little peace of heaven and I think I've found it? So far I have acquired a japanese aralia, japanese sedge, japanese yews, elephant ears, hostas and a japanese painted fern. Oh and a japanese loquat, and yes a japanese red maple. My problem is with design. If any one is interested I'll post pics.
I'm all eyes, not having much to offer here... 8 )
Pod and Rita and of course other. We are having a RU near Jacksonville, TX at Love's Lookout on June 28. Go to Texas forum to see more details. Would love to have some tropical folks their with things.

b williams, those are huge, I would say around 4ft. The cute little girl is probably wondering what that awful smell is.
I truly enjoyed your Hybrid. It is a great performer and did not compleately lose all its' leaves during the winter. It came back with a vengance, the first new leaf is huge.
Come back and visit sometimes
Rj, we love some of the same plants, but yours are about four times the size of mine. For instance, my rangoon creeper is about 5ft tall, yours goes almost completly around your house. lol
I have two little ginger plants with buds that I check every morning for bloom. Yours' are blooming beautifully and very large. I have big time zone envy here.
Rita that's the alligator. I really like it as it is so odd and few have seen it. Most think it is bear's britches.
I still talk about your awsome garden. Never have I seen so many different and huge tropical in a private garden. If other compare to yours they have some plants.
Wish you could make the RU. Since it is a first in the area, hope we get a good turnout.

You other folks have great photos and plants too. It is just that I have really seen Rita's
Your right..we do like the same kind of plants Rita.
I want to get bigger EE's though like you and Jerry.
The Rangoon creeper- a secret I learned from Another Place in Time.
Hibiscus granules Nutri Star 10-4-12. At the start of the growing season, poke holes around the roots, about 6 inches away from the trunk, fill holes with the granules. I usually continue this monthly to about July.
I also trim almost every branch with leaves off from the previous year. Since it only blooms on new growth, all of it's energy is directed into growth and blooms instead of maintaining old branches.
Thanks for you input. What kind of vines would you suggest? I.ve got plenty of bare space.
tcinmb, do you get all day sun at the planting location? My favorite is the rangoon creeper, then passion vines, morning glories, blue sky vine, mexican flame vine etc .
Rj is our expert vine man, check out his list to see what will work best for you.
I get pretty much all day sun in the front part of area.
tcinmd, most of the vines mentioned will do good in all day sun. I would check them out on the plant files to see which ones I like best.
Rita mentioned this forum to me and I thought, "well, I don't really have very many tropicals." Then today I was so excited to have two pink bananas blooming and another bromiliad and I have buds on the plumeria, and I thought "maybe you do have some tropicals there!"
BTW, I was blown over by all the fabulous pictures and gardens on this thread. The only drawback to tropicals for me is trying to protect them in the winter. They sure are gorgeous in the summer though!
