Well, I've been getting estimates from contractors the past few days to get the deck, fence and sidewalk done in my backyard. I can't believe that estimates for doing the same work are so far apart. It's just scary!!
My lilac has bloomed for just weeks now - have never seen that before and in fact this is the first year that I've ever had more than about 3 blooms on it. It's shaded by a huge maple, which means it doesn't usually get enough sun to bloom, but this year we had one really hot week in early April before the maple bloomed, so the lilac budded out all over, and the fragrance is wonderful. The weather since that hot week has been quite cool, so the lilac is just hanging in for much longer than usual.
It's sunny today and quite cool, and my plumbing is all apart, so I haven't even been able to take a shower. Had to make a 4 hour round trip in the rush hour traffic yesterday to pick up a part. I sure hope that it gets finished today.
The waterpipe where I connect my hose for the front yard got fixed yesterday so right now I'm soaking my raised veggie beds so I can plant my tomatoes out. They're really tall and kind of spindly, but I think they'll fill out once they get in the ground.

A nice warm sunny day - just the sort of day to get my first sunburn because I worked out in the front beds almost all day and I always forget to put on sunscreen the first few times! Got lots of things planted. I have lost quite a number of perennials this year so am trying to get all the empty spots filled! Still have another day or maybe two out front and then can turn my attention to the veggie garden.
I was going to stop by & should have....didn't have your phone number on me. Went to Heather's & pruned her roses.
Hi everyone. Missed a few weeks here. I've been a bit too busy with an additional unexpected trip to Seattle. The weather went real nice and I've been running ever since. The community gardens are going so well and people are in there planting things and enjoying gardening. It sure is rewarding to see how the gardens are evolving and the gardeners working together.
I've taken oodles of images at the Seattle Arboretum and slowly processing them. Sure is nice the good weather is finally here. It felt like it would never come. The nursery I work at is beyond busy - I'm always running in multiple directions but enjoying every minute.
My dog is fine. Haven't seen any issue yet with the cancer (crossing fingers).
Hope yer all well.

Mornin all :-) Gonna be a rainy day here in TBay .. actually .. it looks like the whole weekend may be as such .. ahh well .. rain makes things GROW !!!
Nice to hear from you Growin .. and glad to hear your pooch is OK ..
Off to Home Depot today to get a kitchen faucet and sprayer dealy .. our plumber friend has advised we get Moen as it's easier to repair should something happen .. all I know is that the faucet display is JIMONGOUS !! Am dearly hoping there is no 'sizeology' involved with this !! The guy doing the kitchen countertops says NO .. but 'THINGS' just seem to happen to me LoL !!!
Enjoy your day everyone!!

Mornin' all, and welcome back growin! I'm glad to hear your furry friend is doing okay. Sounds like the community gardens give you a real sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
Supposed to be a nice warm day with rain moving in this afternoon/evening and continuing through the weekend. We do need it, but I winder if I ask Mother Nature *really* nicely, do you suppose she'd make it rain only during the overnight hours?
I'm scheduled to start my backyard makeover tomorrow - a week of tilling, marking out paths and gardens, hauling chips and dust for said paths, mulching, etc., etc. Somewhere in there I also have to find time to harden off my indoor starts, get everything into pots that needs to be there, and finish the rest of my seeding. Working out of town as I do the only time I have for these kinds of projects is when I'm off on vacation, and rain during the day would really throw my schedule off. (good luck, eh?)
QUACK, QUACK !!! Ranitudinous day .. dreary and blah .. but I got what I went to get PLUS a lot more .. isn't that ALWAYS the way !!
My Hostas and Hydrangea seem to be weathering their first foray into the outside world .. will have to keep my eye on the overnight temps ..
Good luck to you Ginny .. hope the rains are nocturnal only
Waiting on the electrician to call .. have to have an outlet in the garage repaired as well as a light fixture hung (told ya Home Depot was happy to see me) :-)
Enjoy your weekend everyone ..
Garden on!!!

Another nice sunny warm day - with a passing afternoon shower - got most of the front yard cleaned and planted - just one big bed left to deal with. Have lost a lot of perennials this year - much more than usual - and even a couple of shrubs are not looking happy. The Weigela I planted last August is slowly emerging - hope it looks better soon.
Finished off the planters and put most of them in place. My Heuchera order from Floral and Hardy arrived in the afternoon . Forgot I placed the order last winter - 7 total. Not sure where they will go so I just potted them up .
Got to get to work on the veggie garden too .
Sounds like a busy hard working week for you Ginny!
Jeez Fancy .. you've had a busy, but productive day :-)
I forgot to mention I made another of the dog treats from the CKC May 08 issue. 'Liver Brownie Bites' .. to say the least .. Lilly (and Smokey) LOVE'em .. I really didn't ENJOY the making of the brownies and DH complained re the smell while they cooked .. but .. they really are easy to make .. bake up firm and softish .. I cooked them in an 8x8 pan .. but next time will use a 9x13. The ones from the 8x8 pan would be more for a larger dog .. I ended up halfing the 'brownie'.
If anyone would like the recipe let me know and I'll post it :-)
Bunkies for me !!

Fancy, you've been working your butt off! If you get finished and want to plant some more stuff in my yard, come on over! I've barely gotten started. We had a few thunderstorms here tonight, and I've been praying it doesn't hail...
Ummm, this thread is getting awfully loooong to load and I've got high speed internet. Ü

We had snow last week in Bryce Canyon in Utah and ice pellets two days before that in the Grand Canyon, but the last few days as we've covered several more national parks in eastern Utah, it's been lovely weather. Gonna be HOT as we head back to the Phoenix area.
Ann
Nice to keep up with all the news and events going on in folks lives.
We've been busy getting the garden looking good: weeding, staking up the delphiniums and foxtail lilies, poppies and peonies and adding a couple of water plants to the pond. It's really starting to look good. I've even had 2 more brugs come back to life so I've got 4 back now.
And now we are moving.
It's something we'd talked about for months. The place we're in, well lets say the yard is the best and only good part of the place. The new place we're monthing to, only about a mile down the road, has about 2' of garden by a rock wall and that's it. So now, it's going to be a busy time digging up and potting the major plants we've planted here. The pond will stay, it's about 250gal and now has a great garden all around it. It'll be missed.
We'll be moving near the end of June.
Our lives are probably like everyone elses, always going from some new stress or crisis to another. I just have to turn on the TV to realise that I really don't have any worries in comparison.
Have a good weekend.
Linda
Hi everyone .. Linda .. I feel for ya .. moving and leaving your gardens will be so sad .. but .. you are leaving a 'legacy'. We moved into this home 21 yrs ago .. and every summer when the Delphiniums, Phlox, Lillies and Iris bloom I automatically think of the family (especially the Mom) who lived here before us .. in fact .. I have her out off and on during the summer so she can look at her handy work. She nad her DH and some friends planted all os the Evergreens that surround the property .. they were mere babies when we moved in and are now hulking giants !!
The ONLY thing you can be SURE of for certain in this crazy world we live in is CHANGE .. and, as you say, I thank my lucky stars I live in Canada !!
Ann .. again I am envious of you .. with ONE exception .. the heat (and traffic) around Phoenix .. but .. once your inside yer OK .. enjoy and wave to a Saguaro for me :-)
Gonna be a cool dampish day here .. had chosen, washed and pressed an outfit to wear to the Bridal shower .. but am now RE thinking it .. and I guess I best boodle as take off time for said event is quickly approaching!!
Ciao
