I ordered a sun perennial garden garden from Spring Hill last summer. Bad idea. Anyway, I planted the best I could, novice that I am, and I now have 3 plants/shrubs growing, among other things I cannot identity. They are quite pretty though. They grew quite large last year and I cut them down to nothing in the fall. I thought sure that would be their demise. Now they are back, growing in leaps and bounds. They have big, thick stalks (I guess you'd call 'em),very large leaves, and last year they had stems with clusters, groups of purplish, blue berries on them. They hung down, almost like they were too heavy. I thought maybe these berries would turn into flowers (naive?), but they didn't. Please help me. I will include pics as many as allowed. Your help is very much appreciated! First time on!
I need help with an ID too, thanks!
I'd guess pokeweed (Phytolacca americana), although usually I see the stalks with the berries standing straight up, so maybe it's something else. Take a look at the pictures in the link here and see if you think the berries look familiar or not. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/576/
Regardless of what plant it is, the flowers come first before the berries, so maybe they bloomed before you got the plants and you never saw them.
Well, it would seem you nailed it. Thanks! I guess I'm not too thrilled about what it is though, since it is invasive and hard to get rid of. Too Bad. Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it!
