Spring Blooms Part 5 - What do you see?

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, I kept looking for this thread and then finding an old one and accidentally posting to it, so I'll just start a new one! I'm not going to repost the ones I put on part 3, so I'll just start with a rose photo! How about Ebb Tide. She's always lovely.

We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/837357/

Of about a dozen Yarrow plants, only 2 have bloomed, so I don't know what colors I have yet. (One of the neat things about growing things.) There's one with pale yellow blooms, and this one is pure white...

All I have to share for now.. neeeeeeeeeext...

WOW! Gorgeous. I especially love that hollyhock! I've tried to grow it from seed but never succeeded. I'm pretty terrible with seeds though.

I was just pulling weeds in the front and I thought I smelled a bit of skunk. Maybe there is some of that Hop tree around. Now I know what to look for!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hollyhock is one of my easiest. Just sort of scratch the ground and toss the seed. Maybe you have been too careful "planting". They are biennial but once they get started they reseed, and reseed and take care of themselves. Only trouble I have had was the monsoons of last summer. Rust on the leaves and slime on the flowers. Killed 'em dead. I threw out another pkg of pink and they are about 7' tall right now and covered bottom to top with blooms. Strange plant in that it does start blooming at the bottom and climb the stalk. Was really sorry to loose those last year. Had multiple colors and lots of doubles and triples that looked like carnations. Reminds me to go get more seed today. They will have time to sprout and then bloom next year.

Deb, does that hop tree produce hops? That torch lily is amazing!

Thanks for the new thread, Elph!

I'm jealous of your sages and hollyhocks and your evening primrose! It looks like it would make a good salad too.

Thanks Elphaba! & Thx for the new thread too!
Yeah, it could be the Hop, or someone is burning something whacky..lol.... though I can't smell it unless I get my nose into the plant. The Hop plant is a host to a few different butterfly larvae. Hopefully this year the Tiger STs will use it here. Giant STs use it too, but I have lots of things for them besides the Hops. Maybe I will get a longshot, the Two-tailed Tiger ST uses it too.

Yes TJ the Hop is the same plant that beer is made from. .. Your blooms are awesome brutha!! The NOID Coreopsis is a Coreopsis grandiflora ... Tetra Giant.. Exactly like the ones I have and love so much. When did you plant them and were they from seed or already growing?.. Reason I asked is bc I learned that it is best to split them up in the fall and share or space them out about 12-18" apart. I separated some out in early spring, and they did okay too, but I should have split them up more and fall would be the better time in hindsight.

Deb, these were 2 strays that I got from my sister about a week before the Waxahachie swap. They never missed a beat during the transplant and have been blooming like crazy!! You know, hops are in the same family as the Whacky Tabacky!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It figures.......... Someone at the CS swap thought my plant had been skunk sprayed,ROFL!! Linda8TX as kind enough to share a small plant with me. I've had a small one in the ground for a couple years, and it has really taken off this year.. That is the one with the inconspicuous blooms in the pic toward the top of this thread. Once they've settled in they grow really nice.

Yes that is Texas Rose ~ Scutellaria suffrutescens. Mine is just beginning to bloom

The seed of the Hop Tree is actually just an occasional alternative as far as brewing beer. The hop plant (Humulus lupulus) is what is normally used. But I don't grow Hop Trees for that anyway. Here's some seeds on my Hop Tree. Nice pics there, Deb!

Broncbuster, good idea about the tea! I've got Navajo Tea, which is related to Greenthread. Well, I'll try it if you will. You're supposed to use the flowers and leaves. So I went out and looked at the Navajo Tea plants along my driveway. What leaves?...they hardly have any! But maybe I'll try it.
