Need Help to save my plant- I don't know the ID of it

Vidor, TX

Please tell me the name of this plant, I received it from a friend and I would hate to loose it! I repotted it about two months ago and the leaves started turning brown. I don't know if it should be in the direct sun or indirect, please help. Thanks, txlady101

Looks like a variety of Calathea: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59875/ I have never had luck with these so have no advice for you.

The leaves turning brown could be from lack of humidity ... if they are turning yellow it could be from too much water.

I do know they are not to be in direct sun ... that would definitely scorch the leaves. Hopefully someone who grows this plant will come along with some good advice for you.

Here's more information for care of Calathea: http://www.ehow.com/how_2060468_care-calathea-plant.html

Thank you both for your direction. The link was most helpful. Looks like I have my work cut out for me but I really want to save this plant. Thanks!!

I have this one, and it's one of my favorite plants (I'm a 'foliage fanatic') but also one of the most persnickety!

Mine does really well outdoors in the summer (hot and humid) in a shady spot outdoors. When I bring it in during the winter, it begins to look just like your photo.
I put it in my 'mini' greenhouse (floor standing, 2 shelf - small) with lights above, and it benefits a lot from that.

This one is very susceptible to spider mites, which is why I put mine in the mini g.house. They really resent being watered with our hard/limey water, so I use distilled (though it's really gone up in price, lately!)
It also really prefers to have warm roots, as many Calatheas do (some more-so than others!)

Mine is tagged as Calathea ornata 'Roseolineata', but I've seen it with other names, as well.
