OK, yet another question, this one concerning bee's. My understanding is that bee's tend to be a lot more agressive in the late summer/early fall than other times. Does anyone here know if this is true? I am designing a perennial garden right next to a pool. My kids and I don't mind bee's so long as they are not stinging us -lol. How can I tell what time of the growing season any given perennial is going to attract bee's? And are there certain perennials that I should definitely beware of?
Bee's
I think yellow jackets can behave that way, but a lot of times they're coming after your food/drinks rather than your flowers so I'm not sure if what you plant will matter as much. For bees, I know in the fall as the weather turns cooler it can sometimes be easier to get stung because the bees are a little more sluggish which makes them easier to step on or put your hand down on them and get stung that way, but I've never heard that they're more aggressive then. But if you're worried about it, go heavy on plants that bloom in spring and early summer, and go light on the late summer/fall bloomers like asters and mums. Bees won't be interested in your plants if they're not blooming.
