Too much sun!

Flagstaff, AZ

Hi. This is the first time I've ever posted anything anywhere but I need help. I would like to have lots of houseplants but I seem to have too much sun. I live in Flagstaff, AZ and my house is very bright in all directions all day. It is overcast today (might be the start of monsoons) and it's still very bright throughout the house. I have a ponytail palm which seems to do ok, but lately my Madagascar Dragon Tree is not thriving. Its leaves are wilty but I am pretty sure I am watering correctly. I also have a hanging succulent (I don't know the name) that I just realized is growing away from the window and the sun. Are there any suggestions on houseplants that need alot of sun?

Can I borrow some of your sun? I could lend you some of my shade ^_^
Have you tried hanging sheer curtains to filter the sun and make it not as strong?
My Palms hate sun too! I have quite a few plants that love it and (of course) most of the names are slipping my mind right now... banana tree, morning glory..ahh - I'll have to check when I get home and let you know the others.
Good luck!

Two plants that would do very well in full sun situations are Croton: http://www.hear.org/starr/hiplants/images/thumbnails/html/codiaeum_variegatum.htm and Hibiscus: http://www.strictlyhibiscus.com/

One thing to remember though is plants in direct sunlight will dry out quickly and there is a chance of sunburn of the foliage if they are placed too close to a window with direct hot sun.

Thanks guys! barhea7, this is kinda the opposite problem than most have, huh? At about 4pm today (an overcast day)with the blinds closed I still had a decent shadow on the opposite wall, I think I would need black-out blinds to get actual shade! But then I couldn't see my birds outside! I like the thought of a banana tree. As well as the Croton and Hibiscus, thanks plantladylin! Unfortunately I have learned about sunburning my plants the hard way!
